TOP 5 GRADES
G Jonathan Cooper, 85.7 overall grade

CB Orlando Scandrick, 83.7 overall grade

WR Uzoma Nwachukwu, 83.4 overall grade

WR Dez Bryant, 81.4 overall grade

LB Damien Wilson, 81.3 overall grade

PERFORMANCES OF NOTE:
G Jonathan Cooper, 85.7 overall grade
While the entire Cowboys’ offensive line was in midseason form both in pass protection (no hurries allowed, only hurry against Prescott came against tight end James Hanna) and in the run game, Cooper excelled while playing a game-high 56 snaps. He’s one of the biggest question marks up front for Dallas and he didn’t give up a pressure while making a number of key blocks in the run game, showing great balance and positioning to open up holes. He finished the game with an 89.1 grade in pass protection.

QB Dak Prescott, 74.3 overall grade
Prescott looked sharp in his first preseason action, hitting open receivers and taking advantage of clean pockets on seven of his eight dropbacks. His only incompletion was batted at the line of scrimmage and his only pass thrown beyond 10 yards was a back-shoulder throw to WR Dez Bryant to won at the catch point and took it in for a score. Business as usual for Dak and the Cowboys’ passing game, though they’re sure to get challenged both up front and on the back end in future contests.

CB Orlando Scandrick, 83.7 overall grade
Scandrick logged just nine snaps in coverage, being targeted just once, but not allowing a reception. In doing so, he saw just a 39.6 passer rating on throws into his coverage.

LB Damien Wilson, 81.3 overall grade
Wilson was equally impressive in run defense, as he was in coverage from his linebacker spot. He finished with a team-high run defense grade of 79.7 and was targeted two times on nine snaps in coverage, allowing just one reception for four yards.

Excellent performance and some needed reassurance that we are ok at left guard.

He's always had the ability, he just hasn't ever been on the field long enough to show it. In a perfect world, he and Green would get over their injury histories and figure out a way to start playing more than they sit. We turned around Columbo's career similarly. Could Cooper be next?

Just a question about PFF grades. These grades come out for every player that plays at least one snap in the entire NFL. How the hell do they have the ability to watch every player, every snap in every game and get a true evaluation?

Just asking!

I thought it was an interesting question - found their wiki page and reviewed their website a bit. Not sure how many people are working for them but it's got to be a sizable staff. This is a tidbit I found interesting:

Over the past nine years, Pro Football Focus’ unique signature stats, player focus grades, and player rankings have revolutionized the way fans and media have looked at player performance in the NFL.

But behind the scenes an even more profound revolution is taking place. Currently, more than half of the teams in the NFL, along with more than a dozen college football programs, are using our data and services to gain significant advantages in game preparation, opponent scouting, and personnel evaluation.

And now, we are making our data and grades even more accurate, with the help of the outstanding team at Pro Coach.Network.

Pro Coach.Network is a group of current and former NFL coaches with hundreds of years of NFL experience. You can find their complete roster of coaches by clicking here

They have chosen to partner with Pro Football Focus and bring their years of experience and expertise to improve an already excellent product. Now, every player grade produced by Pro Football Focus is reviewed and either confirmed or edited by a former NFL head coach.

Considering the average NFL game only has about 11 minutes of actual action, it may not be as hard as we think.

Yeah I'm sure there is a group of guys just cutting up tape for each player, making videos that are easy to review for the grader.

They can't unless they're using fans as employees.

IIRC they grade QBs off the difficulty of their throws or something like that. Which is ridiculous

Yeah, saw that he had a clean pocket and only made one throw more than 10 yards. So those are negatives.

Steve Young and Joe Montana would be flops according to their ratings.
