PFF Grades - LBs

Is LVE just making business decisions now, or was his injury that bad? He has fallen off big. I know the Jaylon haters create threads every 5 minutes, but I've seen Jaylon making plays. LVE does not have that dominant playmaking he did his rookie year. I know they're all getting less snaps when everyone is healthy, but we should see something more from a first round draft pick at LB.

I assumed giving up a fumble for a touchdown and failing to score on that goal line might’ve hurt him but I honestly don’t know if they factored that in to their score. He also had a 39 QBR somehow which is insane. They believed he played better last week than this week lol.
One of the Dallas shows explained since Dak is not a free runner any more his QBR will suffer. So QBs like Hurts who run net more positive QBR stats.
Yeah but are pocket passers suffering in QBR?
They can because the way the metrics factor. If you need explanation of the Pythagorean theorem I can try, the intricacies of QBR, I could probably explain the design of a Warp engine better.

Yeah I only see him when he’s committing a penalty. Conner is doing his job for the most part. I honestly can’t complain about a unit that’s missed Martin for a game and Collins for a few.

I think last year was great for the line, in terms of preparation for future injuries. We got a lot of experience in bad situations. Guys that weren't ready were thrown in the fire, and they have come out the other side.

LVE is doing fine. He seems to get the more "heady" assignments over Jaylon. LVE knows his assignments and does not free lance, that being said he does not appear to be as instinctual as he once was.

Probably the same guys that said that Dak sucked.....

He does suck. Wait until we play a team that can run the ball. We have played probably 3 of the worst running teams in the NFL. Jaylon will be exposed.

I think LVE is the same player now as he was his rookie year. I think he just had a string of 3-4 awesome splash plays during a really important stretch that made us think he was a superstar. Hard to do those plays, harder still to sustain them.

He's fine, I have no problem with LVE - he isn't a liability. He plays his assignments, makes his tackle. He'll get hot again at some point, but I don't think he's an All Pro.

Well that’s what I’m saying…this fanbase tells me Jaylon is the worst linebacker in the league but I know our last two matchups have terrible linebacker play.
I will agree that you don’t pay a middle linebacker, a run stuffing defensive end or a running back top of the line contract. I just don’t blame the players for that decision.

Very simple. To any Jaylon-is-good fanboys: show me the film of his good plays this year so far. Surely, the #20 graded LB has some splash plays. The camera doesn’t lie.

OCs love Jaylon. They can exploit his physical weaknesses and lack of football smarts.

Cox is the better LB than Jaylon and it isn’t even close. McCarthy and Quinn can’t hide it much longer.

Same. That was on Jerry.

This whole "Cox is the better LB" is just nonsense. Its also crap to think Quinn would give Jaylon more snaps if this was true. Quinn has showed he's playing his best players at the best positions.

3 games and not as many snaps as some of the other guys this year so let's see what happens. He still looks like a weakness but I thought he played well last week. Hopefully he can build on it.

Last year for a full season: "were negative plays that were graded as such, explaining why Pro Football Focus give him a 54.2 grade (45th amongst LBs in the NFL)."

I find it interesting how people's bias clouds their judgment on how players are performing. PFF isn't perfect by any means, but it's a decent tool and is fairly accurate in my opinion. It's limited data at this point and some of our players rankings are bound to change. For example, Tony Pollard is ranked #1 among RB's at the moment and I have a hard time seeing that hold up all year.

You speak of other peoples’ biases but then assume PFF’s rankings are indicative of Jaylon’s play whom you of course think is a good player.

What do you think of Jaylon’s 54.2 grade from PFF in 2020?

we don't know who Cox is yet, but there is no chance Cox isn't better in coverage or in space. He should be out there over Jaylon in 3rd and long situations. Early downs? I'm not sure what Cox will be exactly in those situations

I felt the same way this offseason which is why it confused me this team went and signed a swing tackle. In my mind we suffered playing youth at tackle in Knight and Steele......you at least saw enough in them to start them last year so how in the hell are they not even good enough to be our swing and we sign a 36 year old to do it? But i'm glad Steele got his chance to redeem himself. People can feel how they want about him last year but its impressive to start at right tackle as a undrafted rookie free agent.

Last year I'd say that was fairly accurate. It's obvious he's playing better this season. Some people just get so dug in that they aren't willing to change their opinions. The QB is a perfect example. He couldn't hit the broadside if a barn in 2017, since then all he's done is get better. Yet there are those unwilling to acknowledge as much.

I'm happy to see Quin getting the best out of Jaylon. I hope it continues. I love to eat crow on our players turning out for the better.

It's refreshing to see a post about Jaylon that isn't based purely on emotion. thank you

It lines up with what my eyes tell me and exactly what i have been debating some on.

Jaylon and Williams aren't the worst in the league.

Last year i could see why some were down on Jaylon but he has been decent this season, in particular the past 2 games

Agreed. Not sure what goes on with some fans.

Maybe they see some threads from last year when these guys were younger and still learning, and assume they don't improve? And don't really know what to watch for?

Those rankings only confirm what I've thought watching them play.

Jaylon has played better than LVE. Williams has played better than Biadasz.

Both Jaylon and Williams are near the top of the league in their rankings and LVE and Biadasz near the bottom.

Quinn had no choice with Odiggy. Odiggy is playing lights out and there just isn’t many other choices with DT. Parsons is a no-brainer.

Is Bohanna better than Hamilton right now?

Canady vs Brown? Looks to me like Quinn is going with the safer pick right now.

Right now, I think Quinn is going with the ‘safer’ choice in Jaylon over Cox. I expect that to change soon. You do have to admit it would be embarrassing to Jaylon if he is on the bench.

I also think Steele is better than Collins right now but it took a suspension for Steele to get playing time.

I think NFL coaches prefer to go with the tried and true over the new early but eventually get to best player.

You do too and we still put up with you.

Absolutely and agree with everything you said.

Canady played against the eagles and gave up a huge catch and had 2 penalties on the same play. How you hold a receiver than get a pass interference and still allow the receiver to catch the ball.

Canady isn't better than Brown right now. Other than week 1, Brown hasn't been bad.

As far as Steele being better than Collins, that's completely false as well.

Liking a player more than another player doesn't mean that they are better. You just like them
