PFF Grades - LBs

PFF is skewed.

They grade Jaylon high for the amount of tackles he makes every game, which usually leads the team each game, but they fail to mention many of those tackles happen after the opponent has gained 7+ yards on him.

"Hey, look, Jaylon made another tackle!" ...... Yes, but after the RB rain for 7+ yards against him.
Whose fault is it that the RB is 7 yards down field?

I saw in another thread that PFF had Jalen Hurts rated higher than Dak not just for last game but also for the season.

That should completely discredit all of their ratings and I don't know why people pay attention to them. Jaylon is probably ranked pretty high because he racks up a lot of tackles...that doesn't make him good.

Jaylon had alot of tackles last year and wasn't ranked 20.

Jaylon was playing in the 2nd quarter of some preseason games. Cox played a lot in preseason, even the whole game against Jax.
What games did Jaylon play the 2nd quarter in? I only saw him play a few snaps in the 2nd quarter of one game....Cox played a lot more than anyone and a lot of it was against poor competition. I'm not knocking him for it. But to me that's a sign of what this team feels about its players. When people where hyping up Wright.....in preseason who was the one guarding starters like Christian Kirk? It was Joseph. It wasn't Wright. He just like Cox was getting his burn in the 2nd half of preseason games.

He was second in the league last year in tackles and his PFF score was in the 50's...it has nothing to do with his tackles lol. PFF isn't the perfect system. Its not flawed. But it is the best thing out there whether people want to admit it or not.

I find it interesting how people's bias clouds their judgment on how players are performing. PFF isn't perfect by any means, but it's a decent tool and is fairly accurate in my opinion. It's limited data at this point and some of our players rankings are bound to change. For example, Tony Pollard is ranked #1 among RB's at the moment and I have a hard time seeing that hold up all year.

And thats not Pollards fault. He's averaging 6.8 yards a carry, but Zeke is still getting the bulk of opportunities. Granted Zeke had a good game against philly, but Pollard should have earned more opportunities after his performance in Tampa.

Agreed. Pollard has been great so far when given the opportunity.

This past game Cox got 7% of the snaps. I would expect that number to rise as we move forward but a lot is based on how he is doing over the course of the week at practice. I have high hopes for Cox but I also think when Quinn feels he is ready to take on more then he will be out there

Why? If the offensive line stays healthy and we keep the same back rotation, I can see him being the best back in the league.

7%=4 snaps against philly. I'm assuming those came at the end of the game, but since I didn't see him out there, I don't know that for sure.

Probably because there are better backs in the league and Pollard's opportunities will still be limited unless Zeke gets hurt.

I think when Quinn feels Cox is ready to take on more of the load he will be out there.

fumble in the end zone?

I don't think PFF grades every position equally well. If a rb hits the hole for 10 yards , he grades a +1 on their scale. If he misses a block on the next play, he gets a -1 which nullifies that 10 yard run on their grading scale. Stuff like that is the reason we get grades that don't pass the eye test. One QB can direct a game winning drive and you might never know it on their grading scale b/c its not weighted. Every play is equally weighted in their system and anyone that watches football knows some plays are more important than others. So, its imperfect. On the other hand, its more accurate than "dumb" raw stats which can lie much worse about how a player actually faired in the game. Was that INT a hail mary at the end of the half or a drive killer in the 3rd quarter. PFF will differentiate one from the other.

The biggest surprise is LVE. After his rookie year to this.

Please stop drafting players with an injury history.

He's good, not great, but still pretty good. He looks foolish with his swipe, running around, piling on, but he is still good.

I have a hard time objectively putting my finger on exactly what Jaylon is. I don’t hate Jaylon. I think his antics make him not very supportable as a player.

I see him in on a lot of plays. But a lot of time it is on a pile on situation after someone else has made a tackle. I also see him taking himself out of plays, a lot by hitting the wrong hole.

I really haven’t focused on him, because I don’t have an agenda on him one way or the other. The coaches obviously see something in him.
