When Tony Romo received a $25 million signing bonus as part of a new contract that guarantees him $55 million, a common question was: How can Jerry Jones justify giving a quarterback with one playoff win that much money?

But one retired quarterback who has a lot of playoff wins, Brett Favre, says Romo does not deserve the blame for the Cowboys’ lack of postseason success.

“It’s the ultimate team sport,” Favre said at an event in Dallas today, via the Dallas Morning News. “I think it’s misleading to say that a quarterback has wins and losses and say he was a part of one playoff victory. I think there are a lot of factors that go into the success of not only Tony Romo but any player. Just what little bit I’ve watched the last couple of years, it seems like they were a little bit in disarray offensively. I thought he did a good job, from what I saw, of managing and making plays. Does that get you in trouble sometimes when you try to do too much? Sure it does. But I think I’d rather have a guy who’s willing to take those chances.”

I agree that it is a team game but when the qb eats up 20% of the cap he gets oversized credit and blame. Romo wants to be paid as a top 10 player he should earn it

:laugh2:

Of course you would, Brett.. considering you were that guy, and cost the teams you were on multiple chances at playoff victories/Super Bowl appearances with your stupid decisions and untimely turnovers.

Ol Roy, always taking that very low road that seems to come so comfortable:laugh2:

Apparently, me.

I've only been here a year, so don't know all the history, but you've always seemed to be the type who goes out of his way to defend players. So, I don't understand the "low road" comment.

/Kind of surprised you attacked Favre though.
//Yes, he lost games, but he also won games when it counted.

I was just doggin' Roy a little because he's been killing Romo a lot this offseason...and seemed to take the obvious fat pitch on this one. Hey he's gotten me before too; all in good fun.

In other words, if you choose to highlight the negatives (vs the FAR greater positives) in Favre or Romo, the opportunity (low road) is always there for the taking.
He eagerly took it, hence, the comment.:laugh2:

Like I said, no big deal

That's what I like about this place. We can all joke with each other. Doesn't look like he took it seriously.

Never been a Favre fan, always thought he was vastly overrated.

Won his teams some games, but more often than not, killed them when it counted with his stupid decisions and bad turnovers. Then you factor in how he acted towards the end of his career and the guy is just a loser, imo.

I don't recall dogging Romo a lot this offseason, but I've always had doubts about certain aspects of his game.

This was more about what I think of Favre, than anything else, ha.

No offense taken though.

Favre is right that football is a team game, and that quarterbacks often get too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses. But the reality is that Romo’s contract is the kind of contract a team gives its quarterback because it believes it can contend for a Super Bowl right now. And if Romo and the Cowboys don’t contend for a Super Bowl, the decision to give Romo that contract will look like an expensive mistake.

-Michael David Smith

Ah, the kinds of expensive mistakes that have you paying fair market value to your franchise QB. And a nice job of undermining the point the subject of your article was making in the first place that Tony Romo is not actually the problem in Dallas.

FYI. Montana, Brady, Elway, P. Manning, Tarkenton, Marino, Staubach, Bradshaw, Rodgers, Brees, Moon and many others also lost a lot of play off games, would you consider them losers too?

If you read my post, its not just about the lost playoff games.

Although those other QB's mentioned didn't have near the number of turnovers in their careers that Favre had.. especially in key moments. Just Brett's last few years in the league he cost the Vikings a super bowl appearance and a playoff win in consecutive years, and cost the Jets a chance at even making the playoffs.

Not to mention he then told the Jets to release his rights just so he could jump to another team under the veil that he was "retiring".

You're right.. total class act.
