Receiving tight end Gavin Escobar never truly caught on during four seasons in Dallas. He found a fresh start on Friday. The former Cowboys second-round pick will sign a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Adam Caplan of ESPN reported. Escobar caught fewer than 10 passes in each of his years with Dallas, the initial thought he…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2449839&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

He could have been better than he was if not for Witten. Not complaining because I love Jason, but 82 has held back a handful of guys who went to other teams and succeeded. I hope escobar does some good things in KC

Kansas City's offense had featured tight ends as the 1st receiver option the last few years. I don't know if it will stay that way, but he could get more touches by design.

I don't find this good news at all, he never got to do the one thing he does well here, catch the ball.

He does have a good catch radius, never really got the opportunity here. Stinks that our coaches couldn't find a way to work him into the gameplan, instead they wanted him to block, his worse attribute. We are brilliant I tell ya.

He signed a one year contract to be exactly what he was here.. a backup. Travis Kelce is like Witten in many ways and won't let Gavin have many opportunities.. not to mention, I was hopeful for Gavin, but even 7th Rd Geoff Swaim found a way to get on the field. And I suspect, 6'8 Rico Gathers will too. That said, I wish him all the luck.. join M.Bennett, A.Fasano, J.Phillips..all have had decent NFL careers.

I hear what everyone is saying about JW and that he gets the snaps...HOF guys will tend to do that...BUT, if you are the backup, then do something to get noticed, do something to show the coaches that you deserve to get some time on the field along with JW...show them that the team can run two TE sets....not shedding a tear for these guys that don't put in effort until they are on another team...once you don't don the star, you are basically dead to me, for the most part, with a few exception...hopefully for gavin's sake, he puts in enough effort to get on the field...you know that Kelce isn't going to give up any snaps to him

Escobar's biggest problem was Escobar. It's hard to incorporate him into the game plan when you can't count on him to be where he's supposed to. His problems weren't physical, but mental. This was a draft pick fail, not usage fail.

Exactly.

He cannot block. So when he's in the game, other teams know it's pretty much a pass.

I hope he's the last tight end we ever draft in the second round, especially if we already have a starter.

Swaim in the 12 blocked better, but......was it because they ran many roll outs to him with Dak. ie the defence had to hesitate a second..............very very seldom saw Esco run the rollout----the defence learned when he or looney was in the 12 spot---it virturally was a run to that side, there was no way the defender was going to give Escobar the blocking angle., he didnt have to repect any passing threat at all vrs Swaim

Well, if nothing else, it should be interesting to see what they can (or can't) do with him that we couldn't. You can't win 'em all and we proved it. He'll definitely be obliged to find more effective ways to block and gain separation. In any event, I believe he's got his work cut out for him. Good luck, Gavin -- perhaps not having to compete with Witten will help you find some measure of success.

Are you saying, Fasano, Bennett, Phillips, and Escobar didn't fight enough? Or, something is working against them?

Our staff is what's wrong with them. If it was one, fine....two, maybe.....three, ummm look in the mirror.....four, should be obvious at that point.

Glad we are putting the senator in the HOF, but we sacrificed alot to make that happen.. These other guys could have contributed, but never got the chance.

Pats would've made a way, but we have JG.
