Thanks for posting this.

I still don't see what the sense or urgency is. If it takes 2 days, fine. If it takes 2 weeks, fine. If it takes 2 months, fine. There are at least 3 teams (Den, Hou and Jax) looking to make the playoffs and win games in January who don't have a QB on the roster to do that. You think they want to avoid trading for Romo and take their chances with Cutler or Geno Smith instead?

Agreed, I just think, Jerry knows he's not getting a high pick for Tony, he's waiting to see if someone will bite but at the end of the day, like it or not, Jerry wants to do right by Romo and at some point that will result on Tony being released.

It is patently stupid that they won't open up the competition for the starting spot. They won't because they know Tony would win, and they want to move to the future now.

That irks Tony.

But at the same time, Tony won't accept a trade unless it's to Denver or Houston, which hamstrings the Cowboys. And he won't accept a backup spot. That's unfair on his part.

It will pass in time.
This is how the sausage is made. It's not pretty but you're right, it will pass in time. Don't be too sure that Romo won't get a shot in Dallas.

No he doesn't but he holds the cards, he could choose to retire instead of playing for a lousy team.
If he retires, does he not forfeit the rest of his salary. If not, what would stop any player from retiring halfway through their second or third contract and get the free money?

If he retires, it would seem to me, he would be off the books, completely.

And Coy, for the record, I was being a smart arse to ol' Erod :)

I know the nfl network guys bright up the Jacksonville idea the other day..has anything more come out on that possibility? I saw Fish tweet about it but haven't heard anything else on it

It depends on how those teams value Romo. Jags still have Bortles and Bronco's still have Lynch and Simien. Houston's situation is pathetic but who's to say they wouldn't just draft someone and hope for the best?

I haven't heard anything about the Jags but I would think they would be in a good position as well. They have a lot of young players. They need veterans at this point. But it depends how out of favor they are with Bortles.

Bortles, Lynch and Simien aren't winning you multiple games in January.

There is no one in this draft that can either. Maybe in a few years but not the next 2-3.

And to be fair, everyone talks about Siemien's 8-4 start, but their own fans know his ceiling is probably that of a very good back up. Lynch hasn't proven anything yet. He failed to secure the starting job at any point last season, unless an injury arose. He's still learning and no one knows if he's legit. DEN shouldn't want to trot those two out this next season if they really want to compete. They need Romo almost as badly as HOU does

This is a great opportunity to separate the real Cowboys fans from the fake ones.

Love the team. Hate Romo.

I don't get the Simien thing. He had one of the worst offensive liens in football and was in his first year as a starter. If Bronco fans have already labeled him a "career backup" then they are idiots. He's not flashy or have a big arm. Jay Cutler is flashy with a big arm and still stinks.

If I were the Bronco's I'd rather go with Simien then trade for Romo. Now signing Romo as a free agent is a different situation.

And for the record Simien didn't hold the Bronco's back. Terrible offense and a terrible offensive line is what held them back.

Well to be fair if you go based on what Romo's career has shown..........he's not getting you multiple wins in January either.

That is Fish's speculation. He doesn't know what was actually said. Either Romo or Jerry would come out and say a release has been agreed to if that was the agreement. Romo just said thanks to the fans, probably in anticipating a trade before the media ruined that possibility for the time being.

Jerry is in a poker game. I can live with Tony playing another year in Dallas. We can always cut him at the end of season. Cowboys deserve to get something in return for Tony. Hang onto him. Texas and Denver will start to sweat by the time we get to offseason training camps.

I'm sure Texans fans may be wondering why they traded Osweiler away and what there plan is at this point. And I'm sure Broncos fans don't think Trevor Siemien is right for the job and that Paxton Lynch is not ready yet.

Jerry keeps the media focused on the Dallas Cowboys by doing this also.

Trust me when I say this - no Texans fan is wondering why they traded Osweiler, Romo or no Romo.

Let's slow down on Siemian, he had a good first year but was up and down, including losing 4 of his final 5 starts. Accuracy was below 60% and y/a at 7.0, and now he's entering his second year.

Jay Cutler isn't flashy, a big arm doesn't equal flashy, brother.
