There are no issues and you guys are falling for it. This is media driven to stir things up. Next story.

Everything about Romo is media driven for getting the fans to read and comment. It is believe at your own risk. Maybe some truth about 10 percent worth.

Team training does not actually begin for a couple weeks and all the Cowboys have to tell Romo is that is he is not to work out with the team and he could workout on his own at his own risk. Teams do it every year with guys they may release.

Will Romo be released or trade? Well only if you are part of the Dallas Cowboys organization that is dealing with the situation then you know other than those very few people then you are better off picking the winning lottery numbers because it is the same odds of knowing what is actually happening with Romo.

Neither team nor player have said anything that anyone would regret, yet. But the tension is there, and it seems to be building.

On one side, the Cowboys have decided — after telling Tony Romo that he’ll be released — that they want to finagle a draft pick for him. On the other side, Romo still wants to be released.

David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports that nothing is expected to happen this weekend, and that “it’s optimistic” to believe the situation will be resolved within the next week. In other words, the Cowboys are content to sit and wait.

None of this is substantiated. It's all assumed. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys have told Romo exactly what is happening and Romo said.. "ok cool, go for it".

I'm not interested in what most around the league sees happening. What kind of submissive attitude is that? He's under contract. The Cowboys control this. Trade, backup or retire. No other option.

I know you don't care for him (perhaps an understatement), but imagine what Belichick would have done in this exact scenario. I wholeheartedly agree with your earlier post.

If no one offers anything halfway decent (like a 3rd, say), keep him all damn season. Cutting him and replacing him with a crappy backup @4mil is about what it would cost to keep him anyways (dead money + crappy backup's salary).

You're going to have to pay at least 3 million to a good back up QB

You're going to release the best back up QB in the league who already knows your system to get s lesser QB who has to learn your system just for 2 million ?

Makes zero sense

I'm not saying it makes sense, I believe Romo is the best QB in this team but that's neither here not there, I just think the team has decided they can't have Dak and Romo on the team when the off season program begins.

On Tony's side, though, if they wait to long to release him, that can possibly work against him. Eventually the teams Tony wants to play for could move on, and I'm sure he'd like to start getting acquainted with his new team, ASAP.

I can understand the getting acquainted part but there will always be a place for a QB of Romo's caliber...As long as he wants to play.

A Cold War implies that both sides have leverage. Tony is relying on the good will of the team.

Of course, but one of the teams he initially wanted to play for? I'm not sure Denver is even actually that interested, and Houston may eventually move on and either just draft someone and/or grab a Jay Cutler. Then who's left that Tony still wants to play for?

Thanks for posting this.

I still don't see what the sense or urgency is. If it takes 2 days, fine. If it takes 2 weeks, fine. If it takes 2 months, fine. There are at least 3 teams (Den, Hou and Jax) looking to make the playoffs and win games in January who don't have a QB on the roster to do that. You think they want to avoid trading for Romo and take their chances with Cutler or Geno Smith instead?

It is patently stupid that they won't open up the competition for the starting spot. They won't because they know Tony would win, and they want to move to the future now.

That irks Tony.

But at the same time, Tony won't accept a trade unless it's to Denver or Houston, which hamstrings the Cowboys. And he won't accept a backup spot. That's unfair on his part.

It will pass in time.

Does Tony have a no-trade clause?
