the hall of fame is about a players CAREER is it not? not about what could have been if they played 4 more years?

TO hear you talk it should be about their off field stuff, not about their "careers".

Which is it?

The game or their off field life?

I really doubt it.

Also, when you have to win your Super Bowls in strike years it kind tarnishes the trophy a bit.

:lmao2:

You need to win them like everyone else.

It ain't our fault we owned that year and won the SB. But don't be mad when we finally start winning SB's and surpass your 5 SB's. Than ya'll wont be able to say nothing but " I wish we were as good as the Skins." LOL

fine. one valid argument. another is that in his career he did better "per year" than monk did.

is that also a true statement?

The fact that when taken in context of how many games they played Irvin was statistically dominant

Irvin led his team in receving yards 7 times
Monk 4 times

Irvin made the pro bowl 5 times
Monk 3 times

Irvin was top 10 in yards in the NFL 6 times
Monk 3 times

Irvin was top 10 in receving TDs in the NFL 5 times
Monk 1 time

Irvin was top 10 in yards from scrimmage 4 times
Monk never was

Both monk and Irvin finished top 10 in recptions 4 times

Monk averaged 56.8 yards per game
Irvin averaged 74.87 ypg

Monk averaged .30 TDs per game
Irvin averaged .41 TDs per game

Irvin had 7 seasons with over 1000 yards
Monk had 5

Irvin had 4.72 receptions per game
Monk averaged 4.2 rpg

You forgot to add that Irvin played on a team that had the all time leading rusher in NFL history. Which makes Irvin's numbers even more impressive.

opinion says one thing. Stats say another

You're right. Look at Irvin's stats versus Monk's. Irvin had just as much yardage and touchdowns are Monk had in less years. Monk will get in, but I think Irvin deserved to go in this year. I think had it not be for Charile Sanders, Monk would have been elected in.

Art Monk just wasn't a dominant force like Irvin who was always double covered and still won out anyways. Didn't Monk play along side 2 other top receivers ? (sorry, can't think of their names, lol) but I remember something like "The Three Amigos"

Either way, sucks for you because Monk was a good player, but he wasn't nearly as dominant as Irvin....

Bwahahahaha! Any time you have to use the term, "When we finally" you lose.

That's funny. But thanks for the comic relief.

isn't it obvious by now he's only going to use stats where monk is better? who the hell cares. monk was a great one and one day should be in. for whatever reason irvin is in now but monk is not. not our fault.

like i said - run all the stats on an even playfield if you wanna cite "stats" as your argument.

but he won't do that, will he?

Im really doubt it. But I'm sure Gibbs has already sent in a tape to the HOF showing how Monk was better and they need to re-vote.

leads in all major statistical categories except for one...

let the what ifs and break downs begin

You're missing the point, Monk played in more games than Irvin did, therefore Monk stats are a tad bit better than Irvin's was. I don't think no one is saying that Monk does not deserve to go into the HOF, just not this go round.

compared to the players irvin had to compete with right?

tell me this, during irvins tenure has there ever been 2 1000 yard recievers on the team?

i hope both teams gear it up next year - the rivalry has been kinda "eh" for awhile. i wanna see some damn good football and some cool talk between us - not jr high wah'ing. sometimes ya'll slap us around, but usually we come out on top far more often.

but like i said - i hope next year both our teams step it up. the giants will be tiki'less and manning may crater again and donovan may be in detroit - so that leaves us (cowboys and skins) on the rise and i'm cool with that.

who did irvin ever had to play next to him to take touches away? did irvin ever have to fight with another 1000 yard reciever during the same season?
