First off, as much as Irvin might have "propped himself up" he also raised the play of his teammates around him.

Secondly, this shouldn't be about Irvin vs. Monk. It should be whether Monk deserves to be in on his own or not. (Quite frankly there is no question about Irvin as a pillar of a dynasty getting into the Hall of Fame)

Now, as to Monk, Commanders fans need not worry because he will get in. But he won't get in soon. He'll get in as a senior candidate because that's how long it will take for people to really forget what kind of player he was.

When he finally gets in as a senior candidate it will be because the voters will do what all Skins fans do, they will just look at his stats and determine he needs to be in the Hall of Fame. But what they will have forgotten and what today's voters understand is that Monk was a good receiver for a long time...not a great one.

That is why Art Monk was passed up today, and last year, and the year before, and the year before, etc.

Irvin was a better reciever than Monk. The voters would have been ridiculed for selecting Monk and not Irvin.

Can any of you skins fans actually give a argument that says Monk is better? Any of you want to address the post I made that was ignored?

There are those who are unable to see,and those who refuse to see.

Skins fans explain how Irvin had 3 less tds 800 yards less, and monk played 4 more years.. how are you complaining about that?

Irvin was almost equal in yards and tds in 4 less seasons. So unless you want to argue the receptions arguement, stats are meaningless between the two.

it's more of a... Our guy vs your guy type deal. and thats why your upset.

Not to mention we can pick out exact significant plays Irvin made that everyone sees on Cowboys Superbowl highlights, yet nobody can seem to name one Monk made, just as Adam S proved on NFL Total Access prior to the announcement.

Super Bowl XXI, 1987, when Monk should be at the prime of his career, he didn't even start. He was the third receiver behind Sanders and Clark.

And Irvin owned Green. :laugh2:

coke addict over class act. I love the nfl

Monk deserves to be in the HOF, no question, but for someone like you to come here and make a statement like that shows you know nothing about being a "Class act".

What if Art Monk was as dominating as Irvin?

Is that a good 'what if' for you?

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. And no, he will not get in. Recievers stats will only keep increasing as times change, and monks stats will seem to get worse and worse. Dont you think we have been hearing the same old crap year after year now?

facts and stats back me up

The fact that when taken in context of how many games they played Irvin was statistically dominant

Irvin led his team in receving yards 7 times
Monk 4 times

Irvin made the pro bowl 5 times
Monk 3 times

Irvin was top 10 in yards in the NFL 6 times
Monk 3 times

Irvin was top 10 in receving TDs in the NFL 5 times
Monk 1 time

Irvin was top 10 in yards from scrimmage 4 times
Monk never was

Both monk and Irvin finished top 10 in recptions 4 times

Monk averaged 56.8 yards per game
Irvin averaged 74.87 ypg

Monk averaged .30 TDs per game
Irvin averaged .41 TDs per game

Irvin had 7 seasons with over 1000 yards
Monk had 5

Irvin had 4.72 receptions per game
Monk averaged 4.2 rpg

Amazing none of the Skins fans care to comment on these set of facts.

There is a difference being DOMINANT vs. very good.

And I bet Playoff plus Super Bowl stats would be even more skewed in Irvin's favor.

Oh and by the way, I think Monk should get in but not before Bob Hayes. SO if you want to talk about a miscarriage of justice, try that on for size skin fans.

Monk will eventually get in when the east coast media start crying about it.

Even Swann and Stallworth got in.

opinion says one thing. Stats say another

Ooo, ooo, BigDFan, let me finish off your post of stats from earlier.

Their are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

But just to enlighten you about your stats skinsngibbs ....

Michael Irvin - 12 seasons (5 Pro Bowls)

159 GP, 750 receptions, 11904 yards, 65 TDs

Art Monk - 16 seasons

224 GP, 940 receptions, 12721 yards, 68 TDs

Irvin had 7 seasons with 70+ catches. Monk in more seasons had only 5.

Irvin had 7 seasons with 1000+ yards receiving. Monk in more seasons had only 5.

Irvin had 8 seasons of 5+ TD catches. Monk in more seasons had only 7.

But wait, lets look at stats, and by the law of averages. Lets add on average what Irvin did in 12 seasons, put it in 4 more years that Monk played than Irvin and let 'stats' tell us how they would compare.

212 GP (13.25 GP per season), 1000 receptions (62.5 catches per season), 15872 yards (992 yards per season), 77 TDs (5.42 TD catches per season)

Damn stats and averages.

God, I wish Irvin had played just one more year and retired with Aikman.

Just for the fact, that Dallas never would have traded two #1 picks to get Galloway in 2000. It's been 7 years and that trade is still hurting the Cowboys.

problem is, no one is going to come out and talk about how much he deserves it because Monk himself wont come out and complain. Irvin, on the other hand, came out and cried like a little girl last year when he didnt get in.

no one has given a damn about monk getting in the past, why would they all of a sudden start now?
