If you actually break down the plays without any bias affecting your view, it is clear as day that there are two main problems that directly lead to an increase in interceptions and a full overhaul of the offensive staff as a result.
A. Option Routes..............these were used extensively in Kellen's offense and these type of routes require both the QB and the WR to both read the defense the same way.
B. Pre snap to post snap coverages..........teams started doing this extensively last season. They would show one look pre snap and then switch to another look post snap.
Both of these issues lead to a significant increase in interceptions for Dak. For example, teams would show man coverage pre snap and then convert to zone coverage post snap and this really played havoc with the option routes as many times the change in coverage was not read correctly by the receivers and Dak. Green Bay specifically used a mix of showing man coverage pre snap and then running a hybrid of man underneath and zone deep and then totally switching and running zone underneath and man deep.
Both of Dak's picks against Green Bay were due to changes in coverages pre snap to post snap screwing up the Cowboy's option routes. It was very creative and clever how the Packers disguised their coverages pre snap to post snap to confuse the Cowboys offense.
This is where the offensive changes are coming this season. Big Mike's version of the WCO uses very little option routes and the route tree progressions dictate where the ball goes, not the coverage the defense is showing. This is very different from Kellen Moore's offense and why he was not kept on for these changes.
