Insanity is letting a good but average player take all the cap money in 1 year. This idea is nuts. I fail to see the logic in this.

They tagged him and he quickly signed the tag, they have no choice, he is guaranteed that money.

They either pay that, sign him to a long term deal or try and trade him. He was smart is signing that tag as quickly as he did because they have no out the minute that is signed.

K then..lets round it ^ to like 12 mill. Still I cant see the team laying out the Lionshare of the remaining Cap money we have on a tightend. If Stevie does that and lets him stay on the tag, he needs to be run out on a rail. That 1 bad move hamstrings the team.

Ya know what's not fair? Schultz catching some heat for wanting to get paid based on his production in 2021.

He played in all 17 games in the regular season.

He ranked 3rd in receptions behind Andrews and Kelce. We didn't have any player rank in the top 3 at their position other than Schultz.

He had 0 100 yard games, they had 5 and 4, respectfully. He got the dirty yards. They had an average of 12.7 and 12.2 and Schultz had a very respectable 10.4.

He had 6.1 targets per game while Andrews had 9.1 and Kelce 8.4.

He was 2nd in TD's with 8 to their 9.

He had no fumbles and they had 1 each.

Now, let's talk playoffs.

He led the team with receptions with 7 for 89 yards on 8 targets and led the team in yards.

Lamb was 1 for 21 yards on 5 targets.

Now, who showed up all season long and in the playoffs so when we talk about what players deserve, we are not qualified.

This unrest over him is the by product of all the poor decisions that they've made with other players and all Schultz did was show up and take advantage of his opportunity and is one of the few players deserving of reward. I can make a case that he had the best season of any Cowboy on offense.

Because Jarwin is made of glass. Once his body gave out the Cowboys had few options at TE. They weren't willing to go into the season with McKeon, Sprinkle and some rookie as their primary tight ends. I don't think it would have been that big a difference.. but I understand their thought process.

1. They had the tag to use and weren't going to use it on anyone else.
2. They lost Cooper and Wilson and Gallup wont play the first part of the year, so they need to keep some receivers they trust.
3. They had no other good option in place and the tag buys time to work out something this year, watch a year to see how/if he progresses, and/or develop someone else.

Yes but the good thing is it hurts 1 year as opposed to signing him to 3-5 year deal and he is average and you cut him with years left or trade him with years left.

This. They handled the Cooper situation poorly and it has had a cascade effect.

MAybe the only hope is one of the pups or two show something. Right now CeeDee is looking at bracket coverage, and Schultz will see more attention. Wildcard is how they use Pollard, they need to use him in the 5-10 yards from the LOS as receiver from the backfield or out of the slot along with some runs. Hopefully Washington is as advertised if not better, and that Fohoko/Tolbert/Brown(ugh)/other WR can do something until Gallup gets back and rounds into form.

He's not playing for 5M. That's the tag for a PK/P.
