Not really.

I was no less a Dan Bailey fan than anyone else, but I didn't think he was going to get it back together... and still reserve judgment until he's well beyond a mere 5 weeks into a season.

It's not Dan. It's not me. It's just what we've all normally seen with the professional lifespan of NFL kickers.

Especially rare to see someone hit the wall that he's hit and recover back to anything close to his previous acclaim.
I don't know that we've ever seen someone as good as he was get the yips.

Look, what fun would the game be if you knew you were going to get points from all your kicks. Much more interesting when you dont know if the 35 yarder is going to go through or not.
Just think of how much better the team is now witg Mahar. They cant sit back knowing they have a gimme FG from 30 yards and have to try as hard as they can to get in the endzone

Wasn't that long ago that frustration was too commonly written on the head coach's face, and same as with Dan, inexplicable given the degree of previous success.

Bailey was at one point, the most accurate kicker in NFL history, wasn't he?

Maher is the future. I think they will give him a contract extension just to prove a point
Except that doesn't fit with the history. They got Nick Folk in 2007, he was good for 2 years, then dropped to a 64.3% FG% in 2009, and he was gone. Then they had David Buehler in 2010, and he only had a 75% FG%, and he was gone. Then they got Bailey, who had 6 years of hitting 80-90%+ and then he dropped to 75% and he was gone. See the pattern? Once a kicker has weak season, he has been replaced. No reason to think that won't happen with Maher too.

It took him a year to do it. He wasn't good last season for them either

Yup, and if none of you like it then go find some other team to root for. We should be supportive, not critical, haters........................................................

You do realize you're in CZ, right?

It's a (semi) internet rule that the ones with the worst opinions are also the ones claiming the mantle of the BEST FANS EVAHHHHH!!!!

Buehler didn't fit this scenario. Dallas knew was was trash inside 50 yards; Bailey was signed for mid to close range kicks, Buehler for 50+ yarders and KOs.

Good for him, glad we didn't have to suffer through his long time in the dumps though. All kickers have there highs and lows.

Anyone who didn't know he was gonna get it back together was just looking for yet another player to complain about.

He was never going to get it together here. Kickers are very fragile. Once they lose it, they have a hard time getting it back in that environment. Lets not act like Bailey has been awesome since he left. Vikings were very close to cutting him. But he turned it around so far. But lets see how long that lasts.

I would have rather kept him on the roster, even if it used a space that one of the other unused players has. Give him a year to get back to form, while Maher makes the long FG attempts and Bailey makes the shorter ones.
