Well he 'tried' getting a QB a few drafts back in johnny manziel, but most thought that was an idiotic decision. You're only going to find talent so great at backup QB because then they'd be starters.

And most, that is anybody with any football sense would STILL think it an idiotic decision then or even in the future . . . .

Just a shame...best football franchise in the world bought by PT Barnham and sons.

Accountability with out actually being accountable...the oldest snake oil salesman trick in the book.

Jerry always talks about his accountability

Well... You just quoted it.

Former, recent first rounder that had not been given a fair shot.

Also he was cheap.

Ryan Leaf could say the same...

Of course he was cheap, he's an awful NFL QB. You get what you pay for most of the time.

They've been sucking at QB for years, minus Aikman.

Henson, Hutchinson, Leaf, Weeden, Johnson, Carter...

This guy lucks into Romo via Payton and he's acting like he took a left turn from being decent at selecting QBs.

Jerry needs to get over his obsession with a timing-based offense.

What good is your red-headed genius, if he was a QB coach and this offense is consistently looking like trash and back-ups can't win.. Where is his evaluating ability?

You tried pulling Kitna out of retirement..

Also he was cheap.

That is a significant point. You don't make the move because Weeden makes the minimum salary but its an added bonus. Saving a million or so at that spot can be the difference at other spots like Gachkar as a quality backup instead of a Keith Smith type.

There is very little that can be done about the backup QB position. There aren't enough quality starters out there for all 32 teams, so it is impossible to create a situation where your backup is going to be a talented and capable player. You really just need to luck into a situation where the right guy is available for the right price.

This team also got the first seven years of Tony Romo for 30 Million dollars, which is a bargain.

That really is the truth... some may not like reading it or accepting it, but it is the reality of the situation.

He is that...

But the truth is a lot of teams try to "get cute" at the QB spot... just because there's a lack of top-10 QB's out there. I look at what the Bills have done at QB... And the Jets... And Philly... And Washington... And Cleveland...

It's just brutally hard to find "that guy".

It's okay. Look at all the other teams that screw up.

This confirms what I've said. The poor talent evaluation at QB destroyed this season and it was Weeden, not Cassel, that did that deed.

The answer to this is simple. The father of that idea, to have Brandon Weeden one play away from starting for the Cowboys in one of Romo's last seasons, should be immediately fired. Whoever it is, fire that guy.

But in Dallas that can't happen. Cause fantasy football's fun. So the same people who aborted that situation will now be in charge of finding another backup. Oh, and a franchise QB for the near future too.

I'm beginning to think Tom Landry took the easy way out.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones loves what Cowboys General Manager Jerry Jones has done when it comes to signing Tony Romo as the franchise quarterback. But owner Jones gives G.M. Jones poor marks for his handling of the backup quarterback position. Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that he has made some mistakes at the quarterback…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2363725&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

He is trying to deflect attention away from a coaching staff that just went 0-7.

***** IMPORTANT *****

Some of you need to read the sticky thread or at least don't act surprised later.

Just a thought. Why not just delete or ban these types of threads if they're too controversial for the forum. Makes your job a whole lot easier and folks don't need to tip toe around a post like they're being monitored in Iran or East Berlin.

I agree that it's sickening... I just think it's darned difficult.

Look at who the Bills have had at starter since Jim Kelly...

You've got 2 1st rounders, 1 2nd rounder, 1 3rd rounder plus guys they traded for or signed as free agents.

2014Kyle Orton (12) / EJ Manuel (4)
2013EJ Manuel (10) / Thad Lewis (5) / Jeff Tuel (1)
2012Ryan Fitzpatrick (16)

Huge grey area between "not missing a beat" vs. ranking 29th in team passer rating, 29th in TD per drive, and going 0-7.

I disagree with his statement anyway. Why couldn't they have a backup as good as Romo? What kind of short sighted thinking is that? Romo is aging and soon to be in decline. Our backup at this point should be our future starter. I know it's hard to do, but that's what you shoot for. Not settle for bums like Weeden and Cassel.

The best QBs in the league 10 years from now have yet to enter the league. Find one. It's your job.
