News: PFT: Jerry Jones: I’ve tried to get cute at the quarterback spot

I disagree with his statement anyway. Why couldn't they have a backup as good as Romo? What kind of short sighted thinking is that? Romo is aging and soon to be in decline. Our backup at this point should be our future starter. I know it's hard to do, but that's what you shoot for. Not settle for bums like Weeden and Cassel.

The best QBs in the league 10 years from now have yet to enter the league. Find one. It's your job.

They sort of did that with Romo. He sat for a while and it paid off.

Isn't this a news story about Jerry admitting he screwed up? Not sure what types of comments were expected.

Commenting on the article's content is fine. Just posting wordy versions of "Jerry sucks", "Garrett sucks", etc. are not because there is a mega merged thread in the Fan Zone for that and a whole forum dedicated to the endless bashing. I am not pro-Jerry or pro-Garrett by any means, but I am tired of the same unconstructive posts that have been posted hundreds if not thousands of times being spammed in every thread for no other reason than to gain attention, likes, etc.

I have posted several warnings because I am hoping to avoid benching accounts. This is the last comment I will make on this.

One other thing, how advantageous would it be to have our next QB here while he can learn from Romo? We don't want to have a gap between Romo and the next legitimate franchise QB because that means some tough years, but we also should want that QB to be able to benefit from being with Romo a year or two to see firsthand how an elite QB functions in the NFL. I think that's invaluable.

Understand, I know it's hard to do. It's probably the toughest player to find in all of sports. But that should be the goal, right?

Also could have drafted Carr over taking DeMarcus Lawrence and had a QB in place that could be like a Young maybe. But to them it makes no sense with a 30 something stud starter with injury issues.

As far as Weeden. If that is how he felt, why spit out stuff about his live arm and great ability being in the system for 2 years?

As owner and GM he has to say those things about Weeden. Make him feel comfortable and boost his condidence. He couldnt say, " i think weeden sucks and was trying to be cute".

I agree but part of the problem is finding guys willing to sit. It's a tough position to fill and even tougher if the are NFL caliber at all.

Weeden shouldn't have been here period. Even Jerry is saying that.

Im replying to the guy that asked why jerry said weeden threw a beautiful ball right before his first start for the cowboys

I read the article where he says hes was being cute at the qb position. A previous poster asked why was jerry complimentary of weeden in the media before and during his first couple of starts.

Wasted thumb energy.

I get that, But if Jerry had used his noggin at the beginning of the year we wouldn't be having this discussion. Jerry must have thought Weeden could win a few games if needed.

You get what you pay for most of the time.

Thats a myth.

Just look at the NFL and you'll see a whole lotta teams paying a whole lotta money for QB's and they aint getting what they're paying for.

Just a few examples

Im not arguing that. Just responding to why jerry couldnt go out and say that weeden is no good in the media. Thats it. Two separate issues amigo.

This is the definition of GMing. Finding a franchise QB is the first priority when building a team, and back then, he was trying to outsmart logic. Picking up baseball players, and drafting guys like Quincy because he saw other running QBs doing good, so he reaches for one. I mean, Jerry thinks like a fan, following the latest trend instead of going the typical route and drafting 1st or 2nd round. He was lucky to have found Romo, but then floundered it away by not surrounding him with an offensive line, or better yet, an actual NFL coach. Instead, he keeps digging in the trash to find someone that suits his massive ego, and in return, we end up with guys like Wade, Campo, Garrett, Gailey, etc. Thinking you can get the same run production with any 500 running backs because you have a great line is dumb. New England always has a great line, yet you never see a dynamic running back coming from that camp.
He just doesn't value certain positions because he's too busy trying to see what every SB winning team is doing and trying to emulate that.

Got that but he can broach it in a positive way like "he's ready to play and has practiced hard, I think he'll be fine" vs "strongest arm ever" and other outlandishly praise. As I said I think being proactive in draft with a Carr vs project DE and other options were on table

Every team's backup QB sucks.

Welcome to reality!
