MORE VEGAS TROUBLE FOR PACMAN
Posted by Mike Florio on May 23, 2008, 8:57 a.m.
Poor Pacman. Just when it looked like he might have an outside shot at getting back inside the league, Jones is facing a fresh set of problems in Sin City.
According to the Las Vegas Sun, prosecutors are pushing for the issuance of a felony arrest warrant against Jones for failing to repay $20,000 in casino markers. The charges would be theft and fraud.
In the request, prosecutors claim that Jones failed to pay back three markers totaling 2o large, which were issued to him in September 2007.
Coincidentally, it was in September 2007 that Jones told Vegas police his story about the February 2007 incident that resulted in gunfire outside the Minxx strip club in Vegas. (Maybe, in hindsight, Jones is better off making it rain at strip clubs with money that he has than making it roll at casinos with money that he doesn’t.)
Robert Langford, a Las Vegas lawyer who represents Jones, acknowledged the problem. “I thought we were working it out,” Langford told the Sun. “He hasn’t been playing football, so he hasn’t been able to pay it back.
“When it comes to casino markers, $20,000 is next to nothing,” Langford added. “I’m going to call the district attorney’s office and get this straightened out. He’s not a gambling addict. We’re going to pay it back.”
Even if they do, it’s not an ideal development at a time when Jones is hoping to avoid crapping out, again, in the league office.
