The NFL reiterates: we haven't told anybody anything about Randy Gregory. About practicing. About not practicing. About a new suspension. We've said nothing. And we're going to continue to say....nothing.

So the Cowboys organization says the NFL told them Gregory can't practice. Once again the NFL says "We didn't tell anybody anything."

PFT followed up on the Dallas organization saying yesterday that the NFL had informed the team that Gregory can't start practicing yet by contacting the NFL and asking about it. The NFL responded by saying "We didn't tell Dallas this. We haven't told anybody anything about Gregory. And we're not telling YOU anything either."

If at this point you just throw your hands up and say "I don't know what the hell is going on and I don't think anybody else does, either!" you are not alone.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...avent-announced-anything-about-randy-gregory/

Said the NFL to PFT: “We didn’t announce anything” about Gregory. “We haven’t commented at all today on his status . . . [and] we don’t have a comment.”

It's just so weird how they handle business.

They probably advised Jerry not to let him practice to avoid future punishment or something because of some stupid technicality.

I'm so sick of the NFL's BS.

Supposedly the NFL is still the most watched thing on cable it's just that all cable shows have plummeted.

People are tired of paying 100 bucks a month for the Big Bang Theory and waiting for football on the weekends. That's all that's ever on and you charge us 100 dollars a month. Come on.

I cut the cord. I have an antenna and Netflix.

This. I'm for federal legalization. But it isn't federally legal. It will be, eventually. But until then, the NFL won't allow it.

Still, a lot of players partake. Gregory just has zero control with it. It's absolutely confounding. Step was able to sideskirt the testing (as well as hundreds of other players) throughout his career.

Something deeper is going on with Randy. A modern day Dimitrius Underwood?

Sad. Eventually this will be legalized federally, but it isn't, now. Follow the rules. If you must spark up, do so when the team lets you know when you're in the "green zone" (pun!!!)

It is what it is.
My thoughts were pretty much right there.

I cut the cord long ago. Today I stream everything over the internet. Netflix, Amazon Prime, an antenna, and SLING TV for $20 a month to get NFL Network and a bunch of basic channels like TNT, AMC, etc.

There are plenty of streaming sites that put up NFL games and other sports, so need to pay $60 a month for just basic cable like I used to.

It sounds like another suspension is looming from what i heard on the cowboys radio today, why not let him return to practice with 2 weeks remaining?

Mickey made it sound like something else was brewing but that was only from how they presented it.

You may have read it the wrong way. Pot is decrimalized up here and now legal just 30 mins from me. So we dont take pot too seriously anymore. Nothing against American Indians either just they did Pow Wows and smokem peace pipes that where rumored to have had some weed in those pipes. All in fun, nothing discriminatory or meaning to make other feel bad. I would be up for a deletion if I could just based on one member wanting it so in order to keep harmony in the forum.

The main point is: the NFL is taking Pot (something that legal in states now) too seriously and what next? testing for alcohol usage. Maybe I should have suggested Mile High Stadium instead of Dallas Stadium as Pot is legal in Denver..
I see ... But be advised you are now on double secret probation. Luickily the mods, at the time, were watching reruns of Bowling for Dollars with Verne Lundquist or you'd be on triple secret probation ... Or worse

It's crazy.

Whatever is going on with Randy Gregory, the NFL should be communicating with the Dallas Cowboys about where he stands in the substance abuse policy.

Dallas was under the impression Gregory would be allowed to practice today. When word leaked out, the NFL told the Cowboys he couldn't practice until the suspension was over.

There's no reason for any misunderstanding. The NFL should be updating Dallas on Gregory's status on a weekly basis.

The Cowboys should've been informed in writing that Gregory would not be allowed to practice with the team until his suspension ended.

Quit with the cloak and dagger nonsense.

It's fine to leave the fans and the media in the dark regarding Gregory's status, but not the Dallas Cowboys.

None of them know anything, they're all trying to read the tea leaves the same as the rest of us.

The NFL didn't wait until Randy Gregory's initial 4 game suspension was over before announcing the additional 10 game ban back in September. If Gregory failed/missed another test to earn a year long span on the shelf, it should have been announced.

If it was in the works and Gregory appealed, the team should at least know about it and they haven't heard a peep.

It's kind of hard to run a football team when the governing body of the league leaves you in the dark regarding the status of a player.

Pathetic.

It's sure nothing new for them to declare Gregory's "not in compliance." He was never in compliance from the get-go -- waste of a #2 pick. :(

I don't think coming back to practice 2 weeks before the end a drug suspension is a real thing.....I couldn't find it referenced anywhere

I think people are confusing the PUP/IR Return rules with the suspension rules and that caused the confusion

I'm pretty sure the Cowboy FO knows the nuances better than we do...and they believed he was able to practice two weeks prior to his first game back.

Maybe.

But the Dallas Cowboys were expecting Randy Gregory to be eligible to begin practicing two weeks before the suspension ended.

There was confidence to the point the information was leaked to the media yesterday.

Something gave the team this belief.

It all could have been avoided if the NFL would do the simple courtesy of explaining to one of its teams where there player was in regards to the drug program. Number of failed tests, status of any appeals, possible exemption to start practicing two weeks before suspension ends, etc.

It's 2016, not 1983.

It's not difficult to keep in touch.

10 game suspensions aren't that numerous but are there any other examples of a player returning to practice 2 weeks early
