Well I heard this morning on Mike & Mike that Cam Cameron has ties with Bobby Knight from when they were at Indiana. Bobby's real high on Cam, and we all know about Bill's relationship with Bobby. I have to think Cam will get at least 1 more year.

I just hate that Bill made such a big deal about Sean Payton going after our guys and now he's doing the same damn thing.
Exactly. Hypocrisy at its finest.

I'd love it if Payton called him on it in the media.

If Parcells contract indicates that he does not have final say over "football operations" then I dont see how Jerry can keep Ireland. It all comes down to how his contract is worded. But to think Parcells was not hired there to pick a coach and players and to orgranize the front office is very naive.

Here's another thing to consider. Parcells is a short term guy. He'll be gone from Miami in 3-4 years. Where does that leave Jeff Ireland if he takes the job? The Jones family will always have the Cowboys, therefore, Ireland would likely have better job security if he stays here.

And once more for those who will claim that Ireland will "never" be GM here... Jerry is 66 and Stephen has said that he does intend to hire a GM when he takes over.

Do you have a link stating this? Not necessarily doubting you, but I do not recall hearing this before.

If you're talking about Davis, this is an entirely different situation. Parcells "allegedly" is asking for permission to negotiate with Ireland. Parcells wished that Payton would have called to see if the Cowboys would match Davis' RFA sheet to save both sides some money. We had no problem with Payton taking Gary Gibbs with him.

His contract says he is the "designee" of the owner.

It appears to be ambiguous enough to skate by. Now whether or not the league believes it is another story. But legally, they seem fine.

Quoted for truth.

But carry on with the "hypocrite" angle everyone.

If Ireland goes to Miami he knows at most he has to wait 3-4 years to get control. If he stays here - it could be 5-10.

Legal wording and "spirit" of the deal are two different things. Huizenga told the truth and let the cat out of the bag when he told reporters that Parcells will have final say on all football matters related to the Miami Dolphins. Now let Roger Goodell explain that comment.

Once again someone with the attitude that Ireland can be forced to take the job. Jerry can keep Ireland by simply convincing him to stay with the Cowboys!!! Parcells cannot command Ireland to take his GM job. Jerry can match any salary and hope that Ireland wants to remain in Dallas. I'd like to see Jerry Promote himself from GM to the same title Parcells has, thus opening up a GM position in Dallas for Ireland. He could give Ireland final authority on personell but as the owner he would always have the right to overrule anything just as the Dolphis owner could always overrule Parcells and their GM.

Hell, if he needs his guys he can have, Fergueson (love ya big guy but we're managing pretty well without ya), Carpenter (maybe Bill can actually justify playing the guy), Glenn (barring a miraculous recovery and a lights out playoff performance), Jacob Rogers (I'm sure he's sitting around waiting for a contract).

All joking aside, Parcells is going to come hard at some of our guys. It makes sense. In the same position any one of us would do the same thing. Going into a new job you want to surround yourself with as much familiarity as possible. There's a chance he goes after some of the Pats coaches (OC) or Jets guys, or even Weiss and Crennel's staff/players also. He's done it everywhere he's gone.

Here in Dallas he pretty much just went after former players. Sporano was coaching in college. Payton was just demoted from play-calling. I don't believe Carthon was coaching anywhere. Not sure where Haley came from, but I'm almost positive he'd never worked with Bill before. With the exception of Carthon, I don't think Bill had any other work experience with any of them. There's no absolute certainty that Ireland or ANY of our coaches are going anywhere.

One thing is for sure, IF Ireland leaves, Jerry is going to make sure he's compensated.

Or longer.

The only drawback he would have to going to Miami is if Huzienga sells the team.

Everyone knows Coach Parcells will be gone within four years and he would continue on if he does a good job.

Welcome to the world of Bill Parcells. I saw it in NY for years.

I don't have a problem with it.

Like you, I have a problem with making a big deal about it and then doing the same thing.

That's no different than saying the owner has the final say on all football matters. Huizenga has made him a "designee", so that basically means he speaks for the owner.

It is a bit confusing, but I am fairly certain that his contract is worded in such away to allow him to get by.

Eventually, this will have to be decided upon. But it is up to Jones to push the issue.

I wonder if Parcells might encounter some problems as a result of recent TV interviews. During his sit-down with Chris Mortenson, Parcells talksed about what direction he would go with the top draft pick. Granted, it was hypothetical conversation, but Parcells never said he would wait to get input from his new GM. He talked about how he would evaluate the situation and make the choice that he felt works well for the Dolphins. He talked about the possibility of trading the pick, or keeping it to take an impact player. There was a lot of "I" and "me" and nothing in the way of "we" that I can recall.

Like him or not, Parcells is a brilliant guy, very good at covering his bases. If he had an eye on a guy like Ireland, it would seem to have made sense for him to have said publicly, "I'll get a GM in place and get input from him, because he will have the final decision."

At the least, as I thought at the time, the interview is a "smoking gun" that would seem to indicate that Parcells has every intention of making the decision on what will be done with the top pick. That seems to me to be a vitally important football decision.

I wonder whether the Cowboys made a copy of that interview.

Well does anyone know if Bill has contacted Jerry to ask if he can even have permission to talk to Ireland? Or has he asked what Jerry will do to keep him in Dallas?

His contract states that???..because yesterday during his press conference he indicated that was a term he describe as himself. So I would love to know if that term is actually in his contract. Or does his contract stat VP of Player Personnel. That is a very big difference

If we can squeeze out a second round pick for Ireland, I'll help pack his bags. And heck, the Dolphins like giving away their second round picks (see: A.J. Feely, Dante Culpepper). :snicker:
