No, but it has taken priority over providing quality experiences. I don’t have a legal argument against paying college athletes. I do have a problem with the consequences which outweigh the institutional gains.
Respectfully disagree, money has always ruled this world and our personal limitations with it has always dictated our experiences.

Also isnt it hypocritical of the schools to market and profit from these kids while they lay their bodies on the line?

Honestly, I have no problem with the kids getting paid, none at all. Just thinks it needs some boundaries and/or control. What happens when some of these NIL sponsors have pumped X amount of money into kids and they get the big head, poor work ethics, and bad attitude, even coaches can't control them?

Scholarships and NIL to avoid student loans. Doesn't sound so bad. So few make it to the NFL I don't think it's a big deal.
Exactly....plus the assumption is that players will get greedier!!

It will be a good mixed bag....We will see stories of players leaving $$ on the table or using their financial security to pick the best program or team.

NIL just evened the playing field for the most important asset.....the player

So the schools can rake in millions off of the players who aren’t “professionals” and that’s ok? Lol
The players, for many of them, get a free scholarship and education which is more than many in this country get so if they want NIL money then forget the scholarships and allow them to pay for their college like everyone else.

I'm all for this. The athletes who get paid should be paying their own tuition. Leave the scholarships for the kids who want an education. Many of them are far more deserving than a greedy athlete.

The reason why it is so expensive to go to college is directly related to the number of free scholarships handed out to the athletes. The colleges make up the money lost by sticking it to the people who are there to get an education.

I always thought it was odd to make athletes' "payment" an obligation to take Psych 101 and English 110. A lot truly want and benefit from this but the student athletes who are truly in college because they can't go pro yet don't care about Freud or The Great Gatsby and in fact their tutors end up doing a lion's share of the work. I always thought there should be an athlete major where kids who want to go pro, or work in a sport, take classes on how to manage money and the public rather than writing a compare/contrast essay.

some of your verbiage is gross.

also how much difference is it really than once they get to the league at 20~ish yrs old and begin making this kind of money. They’ve just been conditioned to the pecking order longer?

Dude I’m only 43….born in 1980. This country has been all about money since 1913. Fortunately it hadn’t saturated everything in existence until the 90’s. People actually had values and didn’t always worship at the altar of the dollar. The narcissism and greed has only gotten worse this century.
It's stunning how overt they are about it these days. A lot of these players need adoration along with money. And it's gone past the point of greed into avarice. It's like a sickness.

Understand your thought process here but the reason that college is so expensive is because of Governments involvement in college loan and subsidies. Govt keeps making loans so easily available and thus colleges can charge more because students get free money while they are in college. No interest until they start to have to pay for. Cheap money causes inflation every time - just like the housing market!

They'll just get Nike, NoBull, Apple or whatever sponsor in the NIL game to pay their college.....same difference.

The Rabbit has a bigger gun...

Athletes aren't going to be starving at the negotiation table.

Guess you missed where I said I have no problem with them getting paid, they certainly deserve it. Just think they should have some guidelines and/or boundaries.

The reason society sucks now is because everything is about money. Everything.
Yup. You see it everywhere in everything. Social Media destroyed humanity. IMO lol.

Its good for me though. I am in sales and being able to communicate with my words and mouth as opposed to ONLY being able to text and send emails has made me a commodity

Why should a student athlete deserve to get paid while in school while the rest of the kids who have to pay their own tuition get nothing? One busted his/her butt to earn good grades and a spot in school while the other can throw a ball further and was given everything on a silver platter. Who is really more deserving? Military veterans who put their lives on the line don't even get that kind of a free ride.

LOL, says the dude who had the opportunity to have college paid for AND received a check from the military.
It's not quite what you think it is. The scholarship is entirely free. While tuition is greatly reduced, the military vet still has to pay fees. Texas, for example, offers a grant called the Hazlewood grant which allows vets to go to college tuition free. But the vet is still responsible for the cost of their books, labs, etc, which we all know is extremely high.

It depends on your major and how high a degree you choose to get. A bioengineering degree is worth more than a sociology degree. An MBA or law degree is worth more than a BA etc… So yea, if you walk out with a liberal arts degree like I did, you better go to law school or get a masters.
I agree there. A bioengineering degree will set you apart from most. But these athletes aren’t getting bioengineering degrees and the ones that do probably go to the NFL and then leave right afterwards. Knowing people and building relationships goes further than college degree does IMO.

Still pretty good. Books and labs are nothing compared to tuition.

Just curious but what you're saying is you're all for UT bribing every 5 star recruit? How does that level the playing field? If that isn't what you meant why mention the wealth of their boosters? Hypocrite much?
I want UT to win national championships.
