A few notes:
The SEC and B1G are going to be mailing out checks to member institutions for 80M per YEAR for JUST media rights soon.
Any adult crying about a kid making 25K a year needs a thorough spanking.

Nothing at all wrong with a college education but it is not some golden gift either. You earn any education you get. And plenty of people get educated outside paying institutes of higher learning.

Playing football on scholarship means NOT working during the school season. It is part of the deal you sign. The school is purchasing your time and removing you from the free market.

As we get into NIL there are players making 1M+. That will follow free market stuff and I suspect that will end up being reduced greatly and to end up with players that are legit Heisman candidates,
No one likes wasting 1M on a kid who sits on the bench then transfers.
So the system will clean itself up IMHO.

This is all VASTLY superior to old days of a kid going off to school, giving up his HS pizza delivery job or whatever and now needing to ask a financially strapped family to send him money to eat on Sunday nights when the dining halls are closed and to go off campus with friends/teammates to eat/drink ever.
A tremendous number of kids leave and go home for that reason. It gets a labelled generic "homesickness" but reality is life was actually financially tougher on them in college away from family and friends. NIL has resolved that issue across D1 and it is a good thing.
No one has to pay into any collectives paying players if they prefer not to. It is all totally free market.

A free education that leads you to nothing. College doesn’t prepare for anything. It doesn’t prepare you for the world or even the job field. Their “free education” isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. Free education….they got free food. Yay. Get all your money kings!
This is partially true, but not entirely.

It depends what you study, what college you go to, how well you do there, and what your internships entail. My oldest earned a finance degree from A&M with great grades and got a six-figure job straight out of college during Covid. None of that would be possible without that degree.

But yeah, if you're studying sociology or psychology and just got a four-year degree.....I hope the beer tasted good.

It's sad, because college used to be about developing your presence and poise and understanding the word from all angles at a reasonable cost. Now most degrees are about social engineering, indoctrination, safe spaces, and how to avoid getting your feelings hurt. All for $150K and no job afterward to every pay it off.

The NIL deals will sort themselves out, but they'll ruin a lot of schools chances to compete. There will essentially be about 20 schools who have a chance now.

I just hate the player portal rules. It should be a one-time thing only and require sitting out a year unless the coach leaves for another job.
