The players, for many of them, get a free scholarship and education which is more than many in this country get so if they want NIL money then forget the scholarships and allow them to pay for their college like everyone else.
What does the NIL have to do with school tuition? Nothing.

Simple ..........millions of dollars pumped into colleges. They certainly deserve a share and please don't mention free college degrees coz many are barely worth the paper they are printed on today.
So? An athlete is no more deserving of getting paid while in school than any other student. In most cases the athlete would have never even qualified for college if not for their talents on a court, football field, or whatever sport.

So now we stereotyping, why I'm not surprised. Last I heard, colleges require a certain GPA for admission.

Why are you jealous?????

Yeah they were robbed right into a free education and preferential treatment after graduation. Cry me a freaking river. Entitlement in this country is out of control and that’s why it will eventually fail.
Who are the entitled ones? The players who are getting paid for their skills and play. Or the college football fans who watch them play regularly and then whine about them getting paid for it?

in all honesty, why do people care? It’s none of my business how much money somebody else makes, nor do I care.

That’s basically the foundation of capitalism. You have a skill or asset and you try to maximize the amount of money you can get paid for that skill or asset.
No it’s not. Foundation of capitalism is profit out of consumer desire. Amateur sports is about something different. If you can’t see the nuance then I’m sorry.

When I was in college. I worked part time in the cafeteria making cheesesteaks. Why? To get paid and make some extra money.

What’s the difference between that and players working as players to get paid? Well the difference is just about anyone can make cheesesteaks, while very few can play football as well as these players. Thus the pay disparity.

Amateur sports? NCAA football? The amateur sport that has had billion dollar tv deals? Chargers money for tickets to games. Money for concessions. That consumer desire?

Coaches getting paid millions.

That amateur sport?

If you want amateur sports go to the local youth football game. College football hasn’t been an amateur sport for decades.

Supply and demand is the foundation of capitalism. You’re ignoring the supply side.

College football has high demand and low supply. Thus high level players skills are worth a lot of money. For decades the ncaa, colleges, tv networks, etc were profiting billions for that supply while the players weren’t free to maximize their earnings.

That has now changed.

What's the difference in a few years with money, especially when those early years are more under the guidance of the parent(s)?

Haven't we seen poor money management by 22-26 year old pro athletes since the beginning? Hell, used to be the large majority of NFL players were broke when they retired. Now, of course, the money is much larger.

Many of these young players are from single parent households with sacrifices being made by that parent and there are younger siblings to consider.

We see these young guys as buyers of hot cars and jewelry but that is only what we are allowed to see. Many of these players use that money to help their families and why shouldn't they be able to do that in college? Colleges have made tons of money in exchange for room, board and free classes.

Pro sports and the greed factor is nothing more than a reflection of our society and our infatuation with and love of money.

I understand people’s desire for college football to be more of an amateur sport. I get that desire.

That being said college football hasn’t been an amateur sport for decades and the players aren’t the ones who monetized it in the first place. So if people are upset about college football not being an amateur sport anymore, the ire should be directed at the NCAA and colleges who have been banking billions for decades.

I don't mind the NIL, just find it crazy the amounts "teams" are dropping for freshmen to play for them.
The former Gator QB who was once offered a 4yr 13mil deal to play for the Gators... He could of been a bust in college for all we know.

I truly think more money needs to leave college sports. The amount paid to coaches/athletics while raising tutition and making academics a 2nd rate priority at most colleges is crazy.

So let’s start making these millionaire professionals pay for their degrees. Why use a scholarship on someone that doesn’t need it? Why should football and basketball players enjoy such inequitable privileges?

Since when is working for money a bad thing?

Nevermind that the universities themselves made it all about the money over the past 20 years.

And sure money empowers people so the condescending tactics college coaches are known for don't work as well. Boo hoo.
Well, there is that $100K + in free education and an opportunity to showcase themselves for a future in the NFL they are getting ...

In the vast majority of states the highest paid state employee is the football coach, and second place usually isn't close.
We are in a age where conferences are aligning and realigning, primarily to make additional millions in TV revenue from the games.
But give the athletes who generate the money and the big salaries for everyone else a piece of the pie? Horrors.

College players should be compensated because they're risking head trauma for a college education and the college makes millions off of their talent from TV deals.

Man its always been about the money lol. People are just waking up to knowing their worth. It made no sense for colleges to make billions off of athletes and they can only give them a meal plan.
That might be true, and I for one have no problem with people getting whats due, however I do have a problem when the money dominates someones moral compass and that is what is happening in society in a big time way... It takes a very well adjusted person whom loves themselves and others first to be able to handle money and what it can do to human integrity... For the most part, money does evil things to MOST people period..
