Sounds like surgery wasn't going to speed up the healing process, so they will just let it heal on it's own. Sounds like Romo is going on IR-designated to return list.

Can he borrow TO's hyperbaric chamber :)

What really sucks is I just received my tickets for the Seattle game. My kids are so down they will not be able to see Romo or Dez (possibly) play. :(

I am kind of bummed about the NE game now. Driving down from KC to see what will probably (I will still hold out hope, and know anything can happen) be a loss. I'm just praying Weeden plays solid, the running game gets going, and the D continues to play well (and get better with Hardy and McClain, and hopefully Gregory back).

Falling on a QB like that is done to injure. It's unnatural and unnecessary to lay all your weight on a falling player. He was going down, body slamming is a little something extra. If the league wants to protect QB's they need to penalize body slams of that nature.

My first ever Cowboys game was in St. Louis (2008?) when Brad Johnson started over an injured Romo. I was pretty bummed too, and they lost to the hapless Rams which really sucked.

That was my first Cowboys game in the Romo era. Bought the tickets expecting a blowout, and that's exactly what I got. Unfortunately it was the wrong team doing the blowing out.

I'm no doctor, but I broke my collarbone two years ago (badly) and had surgery.

Whilst I think it's true that having a plate in there would likely help Tony get back sooner, the wound created is quite large and would also need time to heal. Also the risk of getting an infection in that area post surgery is quite high, probably too high to warrant getting back a week or two earlier.

If it got infected he could be out even longer.

No surgery is a good thing I think, long term. It means the break isn't too bad.

I also broke my clavicle playing football (diving for an interception just above the turf with the receiver riding my back). No surgery needed, out 6 weeks. It hurt like hell, even breathing hurt, the first few days were the worst.

Broke mine as well when I was 14 playing sandlot football. I cried like a baby for 5 minutes. Folks who have never broken a bone have no idea how bad the pain is. Mine didn't heal right so I have a permanent dip up in the collar bone. Chicks liked to rub it when I was young. :) That was a long long time ago. :)

This whole mess has made me borderline-crazy. Thankfully we're on top of the division with two teams sitting at 0 - 2. Time to find out exactly what we have on this team. How we perform is going to define next year's draft. I expect a heavy emphasis on the run game and other team's know that. Our D is going to have to keep us in games and I think they can do that, especially after week 4 when we get Hardy and Ro back. Time for Weeden to earn his paychecks.

I've now seen 2 doctors state that surgery could actually allow him to heal quicker and be back sooner. Maybe @Doc50 could add some insight?

If there is good approximation of the fractured surfaces, meaning good alignment and no significant displacement, then any perceived benefit would not outweigh the risk of the procedure. This is what we want -- no further complications to this unfortunate injury.

The progress of healing can be easily monitored, and the medical team will be quite sure when he is fully healed and ready to play.

Tony's injury jeopardizes the season, but an early return and re-injury would be the last nail in the coffin for this year. Eight weeks should be about right.

Except that doc is not the only one saying it. Romo's decision to not have surgery is not the fastest way to get back on the field.
yeah sure. Always looking for something to blame Romo for. Its getting real old.

So why didn't Foles have surgery? Why didn't Rodgers?

Every case is difference.

I was going to go to that game for my birthday (happens to be Jerry's bday too) :( But now I'm thinking not. If the tickets were cheaper I would still go. But it was going to be financially hard on me b/c I just bought a car and my taxes are due in October as well lol. So.... I just think I'd rather save and see a game with my fave player (Romo) in it....I don't know.I feel guilty changing my mind but geez it's so freaking pricey!
