News: PFT: Stephen Jones: “Too big a divide” to do a Dez Bryant deal now

It's hard to "set the receiver market" when you dealing with the same guy for both big names.

On the flip side, if he doesn't sign either, Condon will look like the road block, not Denver and Dallas.

He will but he knows that.

Yeah, right. Either way, the point is there's a drop dead date for it, so this is all just positioning prior to that.

That's what I think, and in a sense, Dez/Condon blinked first. They're trying to create outrage by threatening to miss games, and unfortunately, it's working by looking at this board.

If Dallas can't even negotiate after July 15th anyway, what would be the point of skipping games? None, other than throwing $2 million in the trash.

Stephen is quite the poker player. Unlike his father.

Stephen is the future and he understands the importance of good cap management. This is really his first big test IMO. Romo was a deal where the team was kinda locked into it and it was easy to make the decision they did. Agree or not, it was viewed as a good financial decision. This is different. Going to be interesting to watch this play out.

Tell that to Jerry Rice

Sorry Jerry, you weren't worth 17 million then, and you're not worth 17 million now, not even while dressing up like Magic Mike. Once you start paying 14 million + for a WR you're bordering insanity, I mean I can live with 12-14 million/year, especially if it's a guy like CJ/Dez/Rice, but anything higher is absurd. Dez Bryant isn't as valuable as a QB, so why pay him like one?

I'm sure a deal will get done. It may take a little 1 on 1 between Jerry and Dez. No Stephen J. around. No Garrett around. And sure as shootin' no Tom Condon around.

Dez is better than them..and he is more valuable to Dallas...so pay him what he is worth...and let the other teams fall in line BEHIND you!

The problem is, no one knows what a WR like Dez is worth in todays NFL. If it was as simple as your statement, he would be signed already.

When guys like Cobb, Nelson, ABrown, Maclin, Fitz, AJohnson and Maclin all sign for around 10m or less, we have a pretty good idea.

JJones, Dez, AJGreen and DThomas are pretty good, but how much better than those guys.

Add OBJ, Watkins, Benjamin, Evans and all the other rookies this year and last and the market is flooded with talented WRs. That means prices drop instead of rising. Like the RB market.

cowboys wont cave, they are going to go with tag if dez doesnt take what they are offering.
To get a contract Dez will have to take what is being offered or play with tag this year.

Truth is none of us know what is being offered or what Dez is demanding. We also dont know what supervision clauses are in the contract.
It isnt up to us , so I am just going to wait and see what does happen.

Comments like this are meaningless without numbers. What's he worth? What if you offer him what he's worth and he says no? Where do you draw the line?0.

Doesn't Condon represent Demariyius Thomas and AJ Green, too?

Wow I wonder what he tells each one about the others lol.
He might tell each one they are worth more than the others!!
This seems like a conflict of interest.
I imagine he hopes one of the teams cave and give a big contract , which would then help the others.
That means he wont cave, and I dont think dallas will cave so no contract this year.

I might add that dallas FO decides what dez is worth, and he has to either take that or the tag.
We dont decide and dez doesnt decide.

It's nothing new, and I doubt 99% of the posters are truly turning their backs on Dez. The bar is set high for this team this year. We have question marks at running back, and our elite receiver is going public saying he might miss some games this year due to his contract. While I'm not panicking about it, I can see why some are, and in return giving Dez some flack over it. It's just frustration from the fans, knowing that this year we have a good shot at going to the Superbowl, and they would like to see the team united.

It's just so stupid reading people say trade him. Ok, I guess people forget what happened to Laurent Robinson when Jacksonville tried to turn him into a #1. Be patient.. Dez makes our whole Offense better and should be paid accordingly.

If Dallas traded Dez it would be for two 1sts. They would do a lot better than LRobinson or TWilliams.

Great point.

I had Cobb on my fantasy team this past season and I'll say that Dez isn't $7 mil per season better than Cobb.

Really good post.

Brown is already asking for more money. When he signed he wasn't even the top wr on his team. And I don't know how you get that dez isn't much better than the guys you mentioned. I'm assuming you are going off their stats

I'm as big of a Dez supporter as there is, but with the recent success of NE and Seattle, don't tell me that it takes a great receiver to lift the Lombardi.

In fairness, Gronk is a receiving threat.
