PFT: Tony Romo practices, Dez Bryant says he was "throwing missiles"

There are many types of missiles. Scud missiles for example, are very inaccurate and pretty weak (Chad Pennington). Hopefully Dez was referring to a guided ballistic missile which are supremely accurate and powerful at the same time. Can someone ask Dez to clarify?

I'm glad to see Romo back out there and reports that he is throwing the ball with some heat on it that is a big step. Ultimately the biggest step will be taking that 1st big hit and how he responds. You can practice a lot of things but you don't practice taking shots from the defense until you are in the heat of battle.

Yeah Romo is being pushed for the 1st time since becoming he starter. Nothing brings out the best in people like competition .

This can only help the team and Dak is the reason .

What do you mean? He has had competition from the likes of Brad Johnson, Brooks Bollinger, John Kitna, Kyle Orton and Brandon Weeden before.

I personally want to see Romo back starting because I think he gives us more options. If he fails or gets hurt, then it just solidifies Dak as the future. I don't think anyone is going to keep Romo in there if the team takes a step back. It's exciting to hear Dez talk about Romo being in better shape and throwing missiles. I think Prescott is just learning how to alter his throws based upon the situation and it is funny how he seems to lollipop a lot of balls even though it is suggested that he has a strong arm. I love that we have Dak on this team for the future and potentially for the here and now, but the fact is that Romo was undisputably the best QB in camp when he went down and deserves the chance to prove that he still is.

Serious question.. Why is this a constant question on here as if that's an explainable thing?

To me, that's such a duh type of question. Absolutely no one, in the organization or out, can say with any type of certainty whether he can take a hit that won't torque him into football oblivion.

I'm asking you, because I know you have good sense. lol

I was being facetious. The real issue isn't so much whether Romo can take a hit, but whether he can get rid of the ball so he can avoid a big hit. Romo - as all quarterbacks who are confident in their lines and want to make a play do - likes to stand in until the last second to complete a pass.

He doesn't need to do this anymore. He needs to get rid of the ball - even if it means an incompletion - to preserve his body. He isn't young anymore. He doesn't need to be taking unnecessary shots.

I agree with you. He's been knowing for having a quick release, but I also believe to lessen his INTs, he started taking more sacks. There's gotta be a healthy balance in there.

If it's fourth down or if we're in the playoffs, okay, I understand hanging in there until the last second. But if it's a "live to play another down" situation, GET RID OF THE BALL!

But easier said than done.

Key word is "more". For someone to suggest that a footbal player of Tony's caliber just started lifting weights and working out because he's being pushed by Dak is foolish.

Well of course it's going to be 'more'.

Rehab plus strength and conditioning.

By now he gets to actually 'work out'. ;)

Here is the Dallas Morning News excerpt (mostly a repeat from OP)

Bryant--
"He was good", Bryant said, adding that Romo's passes "looked like a little missile. He was drilling it. He's looking damn good."

"He's been working, I'll give him that. He's lost some weight. I thought I saw a couple of abs on him." (lol)

Witten--
Tight end Jason Witten said he thought Romo "looked sharp" during Thursday's practice.

"I know it has not been an easy road for him to take that next step and do work on the field, much like last week," Witten said. "It's good energy he brings. For all of us, I think there's a respect you have for a guy we saw laying on the field in Seattle and now see, a couple of months later, he's back in there and working his rehab. It's good to have him out there and for this team just to continue to move forward."

That's good news for Romo and great news for the team. Having multiple healthy QB's who can win is the best problem to have!

This competition thing is ridiculous. How many top-tier QBs have competition during their tenure? Aren't people complaining all the time how hard it is to even find 1 guy, let alone two? Who are Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Big Ben, Rivers, Wilson, Luck etc getting pushed by??? Let alone guys like Manning, Stafford, Flacco. You think Carr is going to be pushed anytime soon?

To act like Romo isn't a tireless worker just seems ludicrous to me.

wow read the comments on that page.
most dont want romo back.
The telling thing is dez saying romo has lost some weight like it is a good thing, and last week it was tony in weight room, which makes me
Wonder why Tony didnt do these things before ??
I think all this has motivated even tony, which he obviously needed.

You obviously have never had a disc issue. I think if you knew how that felt you'd know. I have 2 bulging discs and havent been able to lift decent weight for about a year and a half....
This dude has a herniated disc. Almost all people with this injury put on weight. I see what youre saying, but this is some insight.

no I havent, and I dont mean to criticize tony.
There are other things he could do to keep weight down or lose weight.
my take on it is Tony had no competition, so he didnt do all he could before.

Romo has been doing this for a while now. He said at the end of 2015 he's going to work out the hardest he possibly can. It has nothing to do with Dak, it was his plan all along.

It wouldn't have mattered. Tony didn't get injured because he was too fat. He didn't get injured because he wasnt muscular enough. Just like Adrian Peterson and Dez Bryant didn't help themselves with their single digit body fat and weight training. Look at Brady, Manning , big Ben, brees,...these guys have no idea what a weight room looks like and they never get hurt.
Well I wasnt saying tony got hurt due to being fat.
But you make a good point on the other guys, do they just play smarter, or know how to go down or take a hit better?

Well good, if he wants to keep playing he needs to be in the best condition he can be in.
