of course it doesn't change anything but it sets everyone's expectations that thought Prescott wasn't worth this money, that he's every bit worth Trevor Lawrence money and some so his agents and himself know now and Jerry who said he was waiting for the other leaves to fall, well those leaves have dropped and now you know you're probably starting out at 55 that's the floor if you can convince him for 56 you better sign him now and let him know how you appreciate him and sorry for waiting so long....lol

Mike Florio's article about Prescott’s pending negotiations is intriguing.
It paints the picture of the Cowboys FO having no / little foresight in drawing up their quarterback's current contract back then, while the agent for Prescott clearly laid forth a solid plan that not only rewarded him these past four years, but also sets the player up for a second lucrative deal - be it with the Cowboys - or another team in 2025.

From the article:

Dak possesses exactly the kind of business leverage on which Cowboys owner Jerry Jones routinely has capitalized throughout his career. Dak needs to only ask himself, “WWJD?”
The “J” in that formulation wouldn’t turn cheeks; he’d squeeze balls. By not accepting whatever the Cowboys have offered, that’s what Dak is doing.

Just another observation that underscores how Jerry Jones is his own worst enemy in contract negotiations.

Jerry won't get fooled twice by the same player.

You can burn him once on a bad contract.

For as flawed as he is everywhere, the one place he is pretty good at is not allowing a player to burn him twice.
If Dak were the only player that ever fooled Jerry Jones you’d be right about him not being burned twice. Two words, Elliott and Prescott. Jerry is easily fooled because he is one.

Name the players that fooled Jerry twice and got a 2nd big contract from him when they didn't live up to the 1st big one.

Yeah I'm sure it doesn't lol... Just like when Wentz signed for 32m and it "didn't change things for Dak" lol. Only it did, he signed for more. This front office is a bunch of poop.

No player ever fooled Jerry once, let alone twice. Owners are prohibited in the CBA from negotiating contracts with players that employ an NFLPA certified agent. Jerry only gets “fooled” by any savvy player agent with a talented client. Just because Jerry Jones can fool millions of fans does not mean he can fool even one certified player’s agent. Go buy a logo key chain.

It’s all about public perception for Jethro . He didn’t want to pull the trigger too soon on a new contract because of the embarrassing and frustrating playoff loss.

He figured that once some of these franchise QB’s were paid in the mid 50 range that it would be easier to sell a bigger Market Price setting deal. Probably closer to 60 but it will be most likely the highest current QB deal.

That’s how it works in the NFL like it or not. Goff at 53 and Trevor at 55 sets the table up for Prescott to receive more. Especially if Tua and Love sign big deals in the 50+ per range.

Despite what many fans feel Jethro still believes in him. And has maintained as such. He’s just trying to manage the public perception.

But Prescott does hold all the cards. If he doesn’t receive the deal he’s looking for he’s in a position he wasn’t in last time with the door to FA opening up next year.

Ive maintained all off season that Jethro has until the season begins to get a deal done. If not then Prescott will assume Jethro is willing to risk him walking and I’d bet regardless how the season goes he’s gone.

The clock is ticking…we shall know soon.

What most of you guys keep forgetting is that Jerry cannot just decide today I’ll resign Dak Prescott.
If you were Dak’s agent, barring Dak ignoring your advice, you would never let Dak sign a contract at this point. There is absolutely no positive side to signing right now. Dak will be a free agent. That doesn’t mean he wants to leave, but being a free agent means Jerry has to at least come close to matching the best offer Dak receives from any team. By even allowing Dak to play last season without a new extension, Jerry has invited Dak to test the market and find out what he’s worth, whether he intended that or not. Jerry could offer Dak 60 million per year, and as his agent, I would say, “Look, unless you just want this over with and to stay in Dallas, play out your 50+ million this year and let the free agent market set your value.“

I think if he offered 60 it would get done. That’s how you get deals done early. Overspend. I don’t understand why the Cowboys don’t get that.
