Who dreams up this crap?

We owe it to Wade to give him a fair shot!
I think more Wade owes it to the Cowboys to give it his best shot.

What makes this article goofy is the fact everyone has known Phillips is a players coach since he has been in the coaching ranks. Does this writer think Jerry did not know Wade was a players coach when he hired him? There is nothing wrong with being a players coach as long as your team responds to you, same goes for coaches who are disciplinarians
Yeah, how is all that disciplinarian stuff working out for the Giants.

As I said there is no one way or right way what it comes down to is how your team responds to you. Coach Landry was not a so called players coach but his players respected him, worked hard and won games. Right now the players are excited about Wade and that is to be expected you see all these new coaches and how the players are talking about their new HC but in the end it will come down to how these coaches get their team to play for them.

T. Dungy and L. Smith are considered players coaches.

Winning is all that matters, not how you do it. (unless you are the Chargers ...:laugh2: ... get rid of the 14-2 coach :lmao2: )

Our players are being put into position to best utilize their skills & talents, they cant' ask for anything more than that.

It is up to them now.

Oh yeah, I was agreeing with you in a sarcastic way. Usually one style works and then wears on the team, and another style comes in, causes a shakeup and boom, instant success, and everyone loves the new guy. Then that style wears down, and you have to go back. Wade will "shake things up" for two to three seasons tops, then there will be talk that we need a disciplinarian type coach.

Remember how everyone loved Jim Fassel? Well he eventually lost them team and got fired, and Tom Coughlin was supposed to be the disciplinarian savior, that worked shortly, now they are tired of him too. There are only a few coaches who are a happy medium like Jeff Fisher.

Personally, I don't understand the love-fest with Cowher.

What's he got, one Super Bowl victory in 15 years with the same organization.
That's just not that impressive to me.
It took him longer to get his than any other coach with a SB victory.

I agree the not many HC have been able to do what Landry did 28 years as the HC or Cowher 14 years is the most in recent years.

If O'Donnell hadn't been playin' catch with Larry Brown, he'd have it alot sooner.:D

That was our defensive strategy that day, ... stop O'Donnell from striking fast by going deep, keep everything in front of us, make him plod along and work the ball down the field and sooner or later he would get impatient and make a mistake.

It worked, ... twice.

Because he put consistent winning teams out on the field which gives you a chance at going all the way. That is one thing I loved about Murchinson and his loyalty to Landry even in the face of public pressure.

Those that criticize Cowher need to remember that Steeler ownership was unwilling/unable to re-sign their own FAs to lucrative contract so they let them walk. Cowher was always in the position of having to hope the players they just drafted would make up for the players they lost to FA. Just how good do you think the Cowboys would be if Jerry Jones unwilling to re-sign Ware in a few years and let him leave & maybe also let 1-2 other starters leave each year. That is the position Cowher was in almost every year.

Frankly I think Cowher left the Steelers not only cause he was worn out after about 15 straight years with them but also because Steeler ownership left so many of their younger starters left for FA & more money elsewhere. He got tired of that and tired of their pennypinching salary. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hired as head coach by the Panthers in 2 years.

I think there is some truth to this story -- at least the part where Wade isn't going to be around so long. I don't think it will be Cowher or Fisher who are the guys though -- it will be Jason Garrett who pushes Wade out the door.

Jerry wanted Garrett here form the get go -- initially, he likely wanted to bring in Garrett to work under Bill for a year or maybe two then take over. Jerry loves him some Garrett.

The true irony here is that the better the team performs, the MORE likely Wade is out the door? Why? If we have success next year, then Garrett becomes a top candidate for HC positions with other teams. It would kill Jerry to see Garrett get away.

That may be the plan but things change, there is no way of knowing what is actually going to take place 2 or 3 years from now. This is not a knock on Garrett but plans change and different circumstances present themselves. It is like all the talk about drafting McFadden next year who knows what will happen between now and then.

Hold on a sec.... before it came down to re-signing players... they LOST playoff games in bunches.... AFC title games at home... the players were STILL on the team when THEY LOST all those playoff games and the SuperBowl to us.... AND if not for the Zebra's - THEY LOSE the last SB.

I aint now and never have bought off on that excuse and the love for Cowher.

With that said... how u doin?! :D

With that said... I could see Jones booting Wade and bringing in Cowher.

Expectations are very high for Wade Phillips.

If the defense fails to play as well as it did last season, it wouldn't surprise me if he were shown the door.

If this team misses the playoffs this season, chances are good that Phillips will be shown the door.

Expectations are very high for Wade Phillips.

I don't think him being a players coach has anything to do with it.

Agreed. Jerry is probably thinking... "Hey Wade... I paid the Tuna alot to put this team together" "You have just about everything you need" "Get 'er Done or else"

BALONEY!!! Not unless Wade has a monumental breakdown and we go 4-12 or 5-11 or any of those bad scenarios... They problem is that might happen; what with all the changes to the defense becoming more agressive and our offense also being agressive.... If we take too many chances we may give up too many plays and get blown out.

I don't think this will happen, but it is definitely possible. Besides, Cowher is just like BP, he is a hardass, and Cowher also had amazing coordinators in Pittsburgh, I think people give the guy too much credit. I want Wade to stay.

We will have a great year nect year. We are not the Commanders...Wade is not Steve Spurrier.
