PFT: Wade might not last long

I don't understand this fascination with Bill Cowher alot of people have. I nver thought he was as amazing as people say

I think he's a good coach, but I don't see him being that earth shattering. He was always consistant, but come on, if the refs don't job the Seahawks, Cowher is a coach with a good regular season record and no Super Bowls.

Outcoaching Barry Switzer in 1996 is not really that amazing.

Cowher did very consitently field a playoff team. His big mistake was thinking Cordell Stewart was a real QB. He wasted 5 years there with a very good team that with a more consistent QB could very well have won a couple of SBs. I think he is a mid to upper level NFL coach; but not in the top 5 or so.

I would think it would depend on the circumstances that took place, did we get hit with a rash of major injuries? Phillips is taking over a team who made it to post season so he does come to this job with high expectation placed on him.

This is typical PFT stuff.....most of the time when he sites "sources" or "league circles" , he is talking about himself. This is just fluff so that we will have something to talk about.

Yes, he is hearing all of this stuff but from whom? I had a professor one time who was always citing "An expert in this field said" but he was the expert and was quoting himself. Who believes that Jerry is doing that kind of talking? hogwash!

WADE MIGHT NOT LAST LONG

Though there's currently a love-fest happening between Cowboys players and their new coach Wade Phillips, there also is persistent talk in league circles that Phillips might not last long in the job.

There's a strong belief in some quarters that, if the Cowboys falter in 2007, Phillips will get the heave-ho -- and owner Jerry Jones will then pursue former Steelers coach Bill Cowher.

Whether Cowher and Jones can coexist is a legitimate question, however. Jones presumably has had his fill of hard-headed coaches, with Bill Parcells more recently and Jimmy Johnson a decade ago. But, in the end, Jones wants to win, and Cowher has shown that, despite regular roster changes in Pittsburgh, he can always get his teams ready to compete.

We're also hearing that Jones doesn't care much for the recent sound bites regarding Phillips' reputation for being a "players' coach." The thinking is that being a "players' coach" caused Wade to fail in two prior head-coaching stints, and we're hearing that Jones would prefer that Phillips be a little tougher on the Cowboys than he has been in past NFL stops.

Where in the world do they come up with this garbage? Reporting a difference in ideologies between head coach and owner after a certain period of time is one thing, but it is quite another to suggest that a head coach might be fired because of easy going attitude and then replaced by a person with the complete opposit attitude. Now, I understand the idea that someone must break the news first or be the first to shed light on a possible situation, but this smacks of causing problems where there should be none. The Cowboys have yet to start the season and already certain people are discussing a replacement.
