guys are confusing mock drafts with talent evaluation.

Goose wouldn't begin to know what makes a QB NFL worthy, but he's one of the best, if not the best, at telling people what NFL teams think of players.

If anything, it goes to show that nobody, not even a multi-billion dollars industry, really know how this guys are going to turn out. Of course, their ( NFL scouts, GM, coaches, etc ) opinions are worth a heck of alot more because that's how they make a living, but in the end it's still a gamble.

Your comment was "and we know this how?" So I showed you how we know that he's the best there is.

Gosselin had Woodson ranked as a high fourth-round pick based on whatever his sources with teams told him. That could mean one team or several teams ranked him in the third round or high fourth round. But that doesn't mean those teams had to draft him -- maybe they already took a quarterback, or maybe they had someone else ranked higher that they drafted.

But if Florio's source is correct, and Woodson can't play quarterback in the NFL, what does that say about the Giants? More than it says about Gosselin, for sure.

Well that's a lot of maybes. Here we have a real NFL scout saying for sure it was silly to consider this guy an NFL QB.

It says that the Giants just won the Superbowl, and already have a franchise QB so they are in a good position to take a risk like that. What's Gosselin's excuse?

It's not even about just about him, it's about all the mock and "analyst" sites and people that make arguments based on information found there.

In the months leading up to the draft, lots and lots of people quoted those sites as a reasoning as to why their argument was correct and left no room for argument.

Most analysts end up doing both a mock draft and a player ranking.

Pretending anything is absolute before the draft is almost always foolish.

At the time, the Colts needed a QB more than they needed a DE and Trent Dilfer was " the " QB in the draft. That doesn't mean that Dilfer was going to turn into a HOF anymore than Ryan Leaf did, but most everyone was praising the Chargers for taking Leaf when they did. Alberts was a very good pass rushing DE, but his main problem was staying healthy.

Kiper was accurate in that assesment even though he was a little bit over the top with his Dilfer " love ".

The Colts may have needed a QB at the time, but obviously they felt Trent Dilfer was not going to be good in the NFL and they were right. You can't blame them for not drafting a position of need if they simply believe that the only guy available sucks and that winds up being the case.

The Colts were right in their assessment of Dilfer, they just got unlucky on Albers.

We do?

Florio is about as credible as a career member of the mafioso.

As Adam has shown, Gosselin is not only the best mock draft guy, but he's very accurate. He's routinely gotten in the high 80's of his top 100 big board correct. Outside of the draft, I could care less about Goose, but I have to give the guy credit....he's not only the best, but he's actually very accurate. Reading Goose's other columns it's quite apparent that he's so accurate in the draft because he has quality sources around the league. So ranking Woodson at #100 means to me that there were probably a few teams that saw Woodson as possibly a 3rd-4th round pick. Just because he fell doesn't mean it's not true.

Instead, we want to take Florio's word for it, a guy whose credibility has been shredded to pieces over the years. I just can't wait for the CBA talks to come into fruition and see him post every day that "it's definitely going to happen today!" like he did in the last CBA talks.

Broderick Bunkley says "hello."

If he's a liar then he's a liar, I don't know the guy well enough to say he'd make up such a flamboyant quote.

Well that's relying on quite a few coincidences if that's the case, or, it's possible he got one wrong.

Well that's part of it right there. Ever notice how all of these "sources" he has all make flamboyant quotes with the same tone and verbage? To top it off he's been dead wrong so many times despite getting these flamboyant quotes from "sources" it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who these "sources" really are.

I think Scouts Inc pretty much suck, and have said so many times. But trying to hang a kid's decision to come out early on a poor mock draft of theirs is beyond ridiculous.

The NFL has an advisory council to give these kids an evaluation of where they might be drafted. Who the hell would trust some Kiper wannabe over them? Anyone who makes a life decision based on Scouts Inc deserves whatever they get.

I agree totally. This is a load of crap from Florio. It's ironic isn't it? Who holds "Pro Football Talk" accountable? Yet he criticized McShay and co. for the same thing? With that said, I do agree that all those draft "experts" suck. If they were worth a damn, they'd be working for teams.

Dilfer went to the craptastic Bucs not the Colts.
It is hard to say how he would have fared elsewhere.

Ultimately I'd much rather have Dilfer than Alberts in a do-over.
Those Nebraska teams were rife with steroid freaks who failed at the NFL level after ridiculously high expectations.

Kiper gets on my nerves but I can't call him incorrect here.

If Andre Woodson was depending on a media personality to tell him where he is going to go in the draft, that is enough to tell me why he was drafted later than he thought.
