This is true. That's why I thought it funny how Amendola was burning up the rookie minicamps, and folks were saying "What a steal?!" Since the vets have come along, you've heard nothing but crickets. Amazing how that works.bbgun;2124833 said:Well, not too many people would be exercising caution or preaching restraint if he was burning up practice. Live by hype, die by hype.

Eventually, the player's progress will manifest itself on the field, on gameday. Then the real debates can begin. :cunning:

Lots of rookies look bad in training camp. Lots of rookies look great in training camp.

Lots of rookies look bad in the first few games of the regular season. Lots of rookies look great in the first few games of the regular season.
Of course, it's not always the same rookies looking "bad" or "great" at each stage, some rookies are both at different stages, and none of that necessarily indicates how good that player will be by the end of their rookie season or for the rest of their career.
Remember last August, when Pro Football Talk stated, "There's already talk in league circles that defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, the No. 10 overall pick in the draft, could be a bust. ... As one source said, he's the "creation of a good P.R. campaign," and "there's no way he's a first-round pick."
Sixteen regular-season games later, Okoye was named to most -- if not all -- of the All-Rookie teams.
practice uni. Get it right.bbgun;2124842 said:That's nothing. I vividly remember the "Meet our new kick returner!" threads the day Skyler Green was drafted. I know it was just rookie camp, but at least Amendola did something in a Cowboy uni before he was praised.
Not knocking fans for being enthusiastic about a player. Just teasing the knee jerk reactions either way based on one or two blurbs.tomson75;2124845 said:FWIW, there were one or two reports that Amendola was having a good mini-camp. Nothing outrageous, but he was mentioned positively nonetheless. There's no harm in rooting for an underdog.

Bennett is a bust in the making after two days of observations?
Amendola is going to be the 'boys Welker after burning other rooks?
Just a bit much, IMO.
lostinomiya;2124851 said:that Bennett looks bad at these early stages is at least a concern, surely? the original poster is not saying he is a bust but for a second round choice you expect the guy to have drawn a little praise.
yeah, ok, some guys look bad early, better later whatever..but we judge on what we see...
so far.."seems" bennett is underwhelming.
Vintage;2124858 said:Yeah, its a premature evaluation. And yes, it doesn't mean miuch in terms of his career.
But if he was tearing it up, people would be eating it up left and right....
But bec. its a negative report, its getting dismissed.
He's apparently looking terrible. Let's leave it at that.

dooomsday;2124860 said:Yeah, he just looks like a bust. He's probably really great.
speedkilz88;2124863 said:Back around rookie minicamp, Nick Eatman (on The Lunchbreak)said that Bennett was the most impressive of the rookies. Its all in the eye of the beholder.
