They need to play him now. However delusional Jerry will think they still have a shot at the playoffs.
And mathematically they do. Realistically they don’t.
Because he believes as long as they are not eliminated, that Dak will return and lead them into the playoffs.

I usually do not count any team out of they are at 3-7.
In 1990, Dallas was 3-7, and won 4 straight and only needed 1 win to make the playoffs. Then Aikman got hurt. They lost the last 2 games. We do not have Troy Aikman, even with a healthy Dak. Nor do we have an Emmitt.

He traded for Trey, and now is the time to validate that trade. Otherwise it was a wasted trade in hindsight.
Not to mention Trey is light years ahead of Rush in mobility. That’s significant with the struggles the OL has had. Heck, Lance might end up playing anyway due to injury to Rush.

McCarthy will put his best foot forward and go with the safe bet. As much as I'd like to see it happen, he stands in the way. I say fire McCarthy now and see what Lance has. This entire season from this point forward should be treated like the preseason.
Obviously, MM is coaching for his next contract so he's not interested in developing players for next year. He has to win right now. Jerry has said many times he doesn't see the point of firing a coach mid season. I agree that he should for the sake of developing young talent, but Jerry probably still thinks we have a good shot at the playoffs if we can just win a few with Dak out.

If you’re really trying to win it would be smart to have a Lance option package. No opponent would be ready for it especially with a quarterback like Rush out there. I would play both. I bet Lance will get not get any reps with the first team. Which is not real smart.
“Option package”, great idea. That will fool NFL defenses. The Cowboys’ next three opponents have probably never seen a QB that can run, which is all Trance is ever going to be.

Well look at true running quarterbacks. They all start off well because no team prepares for them. The issue is MM is stubborn so he will have Lance trying to be Dak. That won’t work.

They should. They invested a 4th in him. But will they? I doubt it.

I mean, it'd be the stupidest and most Jones thing to do to trade a 4th for a player who never plays. Kinda like Matt Johnson (5th round pick, but the joke still applies).

I don't think they'll do that. Rush could play himself out of the starting position. They won't do what you suggest. Lance is off the team next year, so what's the point? If he plays great, we can't trade him. We can't sign him.
Lance plays out his current contract with the Cowboys - but you seem to be in a hurry to close that door. What, Dallas never re-signed one of their players before?

The crazy things are what has led this organization to this point.
They don't get to plead insanity. They're not getting off that easy.

The Cowboys top management is entitled, incompetent, talentless, clueless and way over their heads as far as NFL football operations is concerned. But they are not crazy.

Isn't that in a couple of weeks?
Most likely. It certainly appears that way. It would take a miracle for the Cowboys to reach the playoff this season.

And yet, miracles can happen once in a generation. The Cowboys have been long overdue.

Admittedly, there is the highest probability that the Cowboys will be completely irrelevant within the next 2-3 games. However, probability of a certain outcome implies possibility of another, small that it is.

I love how people hide behind the “they have to see what they have” line. Like the coaches haven’t seen him in practice for over a year, didn’t see training camp, and didn’t see the majority of preseason snaps.

They know what they have. A complete bust of a 1st rounder that was traded for a mid round pick and who looked barely capable at times against defenses comprised of practice squad players.

The coaches don’t owe Lance anything he hasn’t earned just because Jerry was an idiot and traded for him. Now that Dak is locked up, it really doesn’t matter.

Playing Lance would be the 100% correct thing to do. Unfortunately, Jerry's running the show, and believe it or not in his head he still believes we're headed to the Super Bowl.

Lance can throw from anywhere on the field.

Rush is a pocket passer.

We might see Lance if Rush has a terrible game, which is likely.
I hope so, but at this point Rush is a big upgrade and defenders will see route trees different than what on their film.
I know Cooper doesn't have a strong arm but he's not afraid to throw into tight 10-15 yd widows.

Yeah, that's true, which makes it even worse of a trade. But still, at least for a few games, he should play.
