Play Lance most of the rest of the season

Exactly, we traded an important pick (a 4th round pick isn't exactly a pick you just throw away imo) for a player who has yet to play an NFL regular season game with us. There's only so much that he can learn in practice. He needs game reps. He's got an opportunity now to get those reps. The better he does, the higher the comp pick value we can get for him. If he doesn't play the rest of the season, especially if Rush is bad, then it makes the possibility of him getting another team to sign him next year goes down. It'd be understandable if he didn't play because we have Dak and we're competitive the entirety of both last year AND this year. The fact we aren't competitive and Dak the fact that is hurt means that we SHOULD be getting Lance reps.
The question is under what circumstance was he ever going to see the field here? To showcase himself for free agency?

If it was to supposedly to get Dak to take less money Todd France must have had a nice laugh over that one.

They just don’t know what they are doing. Period.

No! No! No!

Dak gives us the best chance to win a Super Bowl!

Jerry needs to extend his extension ASAP!

Sorry, just sucking up to the last 3 or 4 Dak fans on this board.

All kidding aside, I agree. Lets see what Lance can do. It is too late now anyway because even if he does look good, we can't keep him anyway because resigning him after extending Dak would be impossible.

You would have 2 QBs' taking up almost half your team's cap space!

Way to go Jerry!

Well, and that's where the comp picks come in. If he can play reasonably well, then there's a chance that another team signs him to a decent deal. Depending on the deal he signs, we would probably get a decent comp pick for him. So, by playing him, we are trying to gain a draft pick for him.

We traded for him and then refused to play him. At all. And still are.

You cannot make this crapp up. The complete incompetence of this Org is just blatant.

Oh, I know they don't know what they're doing. That's a given. My thinking was maybe they were going to have him replace Rush, but that didn't happen. So, it was a wasted draft. The best thing we can do now is try to play him and try to bolster the comp pick we could get for him. We know what we have in Rush, and he will be easier to resign.

Except that we weren't going to play him until Dak got hurt. He was strictly the emergency QB.

Right, which makes the 4th round pick a waste. But, given the circumstances we find ourselves in, which would be smarter? Play Rush when 1. We know what we have in him and 2. He shouldn't be too difficult to resign? Or, do we play Lance knowing we probably can't keep him and, given what we gave up for him, try to build his value for another team so we can reap a comp pick for him?

So we spend all week, every week, sayin how terrible and mismanaged this whole organization is but now...with lance....its suddenly convenient to trust their judgement.
Oh boy.
The team is mismanaged. Doesn’t change the fact that McCarthy obviously doesn’t think Lance is capable of starting. These are two different things.

Who said it's mms decision?

They aren't different things. If one says the teams management is nearly completely dysfunction top to bottom...why would you trust any single aspect? Because it fits one's agenda?

Fyi....not using agenda as an insult.

We know what we have in Rush. The season is pretty much a wrap after yesterday, and Dak is hurt. To me, the most logical thing to do is to put Dak on season ending IR (let him reboot next in season), and let's see what Lance can do. At this point, let's sort through our roster and see what we have. Save our starters that are hurt until next year, and let's see if we can get a good evaluation of what we have. That starts with Lance. Let's see if he's any good.
It makes too much GM/Coach sense. Jerry Dumbo GM Jones will not do it. The Big Blue M&M wants to look good for his next job. So Sir Lance won't play a lot.

If McCarthy isn’t deciding who his QB is, I don’t think he’d be here. The team is poorly managed but deciding who plays is up to coaching. If they can’t get that part right, this team is doomed forever. They won’t find a coach after McCarthy to operate under those conditions.

Lance needs a chance to play pro football. Dude played one season at North Dakota State in 2019, and has got crumbs for five years since.

Yes, he will probably be terrible, but terrible is fine at this point. This is a lost season.

What is the upside of playing Lance? If he plays well he won't be in Dallas, I guess, you could get a comp pick for the '26 draft.

They need to let them at least split the games. The game now should be boosting interest for offseason trades........that will never transpire bc the same idiots make all the decisions.

Jerry has no say? That's a new one.

I'm not saying it's the case, and that isn't even my real point. Trying to make some sense out of the circus show....is a risky endeavor and you can't do it based on what you like to agree with.

You could be entirely correct....just think it's odd you choose THIS subject to fully trust Cowboys adeptness and judgement.

I am not saying it would happen but what if they started TL and went on a run like 2016 and make the playoffs. You think Jerry wants anything like that happening when he just signed a 240 million dollar extension to a QB who is 3-5 and has looked putrid all season. Jerry has enough problems without another headache. You are right Jerry spent a 4th on a 1st round pick who MM has said is good and will be in the league a long time should start but Jerry knows he looks like a fool and the only way you see TL is if CR goes down. MM is a spineless yes man and Jerry already named the stater

Well, let's be honest, every coach Jerry's going to hire until he dies will be yes men. As for your point, I could see that being why he doesn't want that, but we should be at least seeing what he can do.

I think Cooper might have been cut.

Lance and Rush were splitting snaps with the 2s by the end of camp.

but you want a strong QB group. And Rush is UFA. No need to push him out.

Lance is likely another season away from pushing Dak though.

Well, and I don't think Lance will stay. I do think we will be able to keep Rush.
