Thought Hogan played good at Stanford, he always finds away to win big games but Brian Broaddus and the draft show said he is small and has a weird windup when throws the ball.....didnt seem to high on him......yet they were really high on Cardele Jones as pure spec pick....great arm strength, but maybe not the smartest of players....

6.4 225 is not small. He has a hitch in his throw but he's gonna be a great value pick. His highlights remind me of romo

I like Hogan as well. I can't figure out why his ranking is so low

Nothing stands out with him. He just does not check the arm talent, mobility or body boxes, which what drives teams to certain types.

I think he's okay, should be a good backup. Just has that vibe about him.

Not to compare the two directly, but Brady didn't check any of those boxes as well.

When I just watch the footage of Hogan, I like what I see. Prototype be damned. I think he's got talent

I am Hogan fan. He is just a winner, he may not be tallest QB with the best arm but some players are just capable of making the big plays and finding ways to win a game....To me that is what Hogan does best,... a QB that doesn't make mistakes and plays within his capabilities. Doesnt choke with the game on the line....Plus he was coached by an Awesome HC....David Shaw.... Hope he has a good showing at the combine.

Sounds like Parcells' definition of a bus driver. And if we are interested in drafting QBs who were winners in college, never mind measurements, then Kellen Moore (already on the roster) epitomizes winning in college.

Baylor DE Shawn Oakman met with Cowboys last week, received pass-rushing tips from Rod Marinelli

By Jon Machota , Staff Writer Contact Jon Machota on Twitter: @jonmachota

Shawn Oakman certainly passes the eye test. The former Baylor defensive end measured in at 6-7, 269 pounds last week at the Senior Bowl.

He was one of the most impressive players in Saturday's game, recording two sacks and forcing a fumble for the South team.

Oakman transferred to Baylor after he was dismissed from the Penn State football team for violating team rules in October 2013. During his junior and senior seasons with the Bears, Oakman totaled 15.5 sacks and 34 tackles-for-loss.

The Cowboys met with Oakman last week.

"We just discussed pass rush, mostly," he said. "We discussed how to play during the game and during practice. They gave me pointers on what I need to do better."

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was also part of that visit.

"He gave me a few pointers about my pass rush from the first day [of practice]," Oakman said. "I think I showed him a little bit [in Saturday's game]."

They are heavily scouting the DEs in this draft, and mostly those who are likely to be selected in the first three rounds. Sounds like they are not sold on everything.

Plus they are likely losing Hardy and Mincey, so there's that too.

At least one strong rotation piece inside and outside would help a lot. They already spent money on Crawford, we'll see how he plays with his arm fixed. I'd love to see more pressure up the middle though.

Why do people act like what Oakman did in the Senior Bowl was impressive? Do they just look at stats?

Oakman only got to the QB for both his sacks and his forced fumble because the QB had to avoid the rush of other defenders. If not for the other defenders, the QBs would have been able to get the ball out with no problem before Oakman's late rush could have gotten there.

"Clean up" sacks count too.

They count, but they don't exactly make it impressive that you got two sacks. If he had beaten his man off the ball or powered through him to immediately pressure the QB, then that's impressive as a pass rusher. Being the guy to clean up means he couldn't beat the OL off the ball but at least kept working and happened to luck out that the QB was unable to get rid of the ball.

Was not disagreeing with you, but for years we kept hearing about how impressive sack totals are, but rarely do people do more than look at the number from the box score and don't bother to micro-examine the circumstances. I do not think he was nearly as dominant as it looks on paper. Spence had a better game yet did not get the stats to show for it.

During an episode of the Cowboys Break podcast, which airs weekly on DallasCowboys.com, one of it’s four insiders revealed something they’ve overheard from scouts a couple times in the hallways of Valley Ranch.

“Where we sit in our office, we hear a lot of scouts [in the hallway]….the guy I’ve heard at least twice that they like is Josh Doctson from TCU,” revealed Nick Eatman, writer for the team’s official site said during the Cowboys Break this week. “I think they really like him. I know he was a junior and wasn’t there, got hurt. You know he got hurt last year. He’s probably in the…late first to second round type of guy.”
