Jones: Williams Will Keep Starting Job
Posted by jellis at 2/28/2010 3:48 PM CST
The question was posed to Jerry Jones as follows: Do you see Roy Williams not being a starter next year?

"No. No. I do not," the owner said. "No. A big no."

The double negative makes it convoluted in print, but Jones was affirming that Williams will continue to be among the Cowboys’ top two receivers when the 2010 season begins.

Head coach Wade Phillips said Saturday night that one news source had wrongly interpreted his Friday comments about getting more from Williams. Phillips was saying Williams and the team can do things differently to try to increase his impact, not that his starting job is up for grabs.

Phillips has stressed that the best players will play. The Cowboys see Williams as one of their two best receivers.

"He’s certainly got room for improvement, we all know that," Jones said. "He’s got technical things he can work on and improve."

****! Jerry, you stubborn mule.

oops, Wade spoke with out Jerry's permission.

I knew this was going to happen right after that article came out yesterday. Either Wade was misquoted yet again or Jerry just put his foot down on Wade's babble. Whatever the case we all knew that Roy was going to be the other starter.

What he says about RW now and what transpires during TC, preseason and the real games could easily be two different things. Hell he was already losing PT at years end and in the playoffs anyway. Unless he steps it up, his role will continue to be reduced.

I dont know why so many of you see the need to whine about it right now.

UPDATE.

Mays says it was an error and he did not meet with the Cowboys.

DCStarJEllis

Again, Mays HAS NOT met with the Cowboys to this point.

*whew* lol

I like a lot of the names I see on that list... specifically Trent Williams, Mike Iupati, Kyle Wilson, DeMaryius Thomas, Golden Tate, Dexter McCluster, Chris Cook, Jason Fox, Danario Alexander & Marshall Newhouse.

Hopefully we can grab a few of them.

Not even looking at some nose tackle prospects? Were they really happy with Siavii's performance last season?

Please add to this post and we will update as we go. I know Silverbear likes to do this and I hope he either contributes or starts his own as well because I like the way he breaks it down.

Wilson: Amari Spievey on the rise

Iowa cornerback has strong combine

Aaron Wilson
March 02, 2010

Iowa cornerback Amari Spievey created some buzz at the NFL scouting combine.

He ran the 40-yard dash in the 4.47 to 4.51 range, unofficial times.

According to a league source, the Atlanta Falcons consider the All-Big Ten cornerback to be a first-round talent.

Spievey was in demand in Indianapolis with 15 formal interviews, including the Oakland Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Spievey is competing with several cornerbacks for position in the NFL draft, including Domonique Franks, Kareem Jackson, Donovan Warren, Perrish Cox, Devin McCourty, Chris Cook and Jerome Murphy.

The 6-foot, 190-pounder intercepted six passes at Iowa before leaving after his junior season, but teams tended to avoid throwing to his side of the field.

It doesn't look like we are very interested in a FS either, unless we're just putting up a smoke screen and not showing our cards.

C Cook could play FS, as an example. But I know what you mean.

I think the plan could be to possibly draft another CB, if there is more value there, and maybe then move Ball to FS. Or, draft players like C Cook who have the versatility to play either position.
