He hasn't even played, yet.

Can you imagine the Dallas defense with the 3 cover corners they have and this guy?

Two Words:

Super Bowl

I know we had Tony Dorsett at the time, but I would have loved to see Earl Campbell in a Cowboy uniform. Another one of my non-Cowboy favorites was Eric D*ckerson.

Shannon Sharpe.

He was a FA in 2000, and would of saved us the 2 1st rnd picks for Galloway.

Aikman wanted and needed a TE to replace the production/trust he hadn't had since Novacek, and Sharpe would of fit the bill perfectly IMO.

Guys we passed on:

Joe Montana
Mike Singletary

Hos, I recall in 2004 there were still serious questions about Warners hand, right?

Some notibles for me (guys we could have had):

2006 - A ton of players (Santonio Holmes, Addai, Ryans, Jones-Drew, etc)
2004 - Steven Jackson
2003 - Anquan Boldin
2002 - Ed Reed (I never was much of a Roy Williams fan) and Brian Westbrook
2001 - Adrian Wilson and Steve Smith

That's just what I can recall. I'd have to look up earlier drafts as I wasn't much of a draft junkie before that, and drafts since 2007 are still a bit early for me to judge.

There were concerns. Warner wanted to come here. A fellow poster here and I discussed it at length via PMs. He can confirm this, but I will not mention his name. That is up to him. He had a connection to Warner. I told him about the Cowboys intentions to waive Quincy Carter. There was even an article where Warner talked about stars and the inference was he wanted to wear the star. I forget the exact wording, but it was something like, "I'd like to find some stars to play for."

All of that got screwed up when Vinny became available and Parcells had to have one of his guys.

Would Warner in Dallas have slowed Romo's development? I doubt it. Warner has always been known as a good mentor to young QBs behind him. It might have hastened him starting, because Warner clearly didn't have the struggles that Bledsoe did. Regardless, I would take Warner over Vinny and Drew combined.

Back in 2004 I wanted Kurt Warner over Vinny Green Junk. I was thrilled when he was hinting he wanted to come to Dallas. Even more thrilled when we were interested. Then Big Bill had to get one of his guys and I was sick. Jerry gave him Vinny even though he wanted Kurt.

No, I am not guessing.

I agree, completely. Warner would have been so much better for use than Vinny or Drew.

Man it sucks to think we could have had him instead.

Andre Johnson
Oh yeah imagine what kind of damage he, and Romo would be doing to the league right now and that is not counting what we already have in an emerging Miles Austin this offense would be super scary if Andre Johnson, was a Cowboy.

I'm surprised nobody picked the one guy I would think you'd have to consider the biggest miss.

Montana.

He was drafted in the 3rd RD in 1979. Now I have read what Schram had to say about this.
Montana was the BPA on our board, yet we went for need with TE Cosbie. For the record, I loved Cosbie and think he was under utilized in his time here.

Either way, can you imagine Montana with a year behind Staubach? White still takes over in 1980. But you now have Montana learning and pushing White. OMG, the 1980's would have gone in a whole new direction.

i second that
