I dont see any realistic way we get a wild card especially if we only win 10 games. We would need;

lions to lose 4 more games (if they fininsh at 10-6, the would get in most likey due to the better nfc record)

49ers to lose 4 more games (they beat us and own that tie breaker)

Seattle to lose 2 more games (this is realistic but we need them to beat sf twice and philthy which will give them 9 wins total. We would be banking on them losing to ari twice and the rams once again)

GB to lose 3 more games. They have the easiest schedule of all of our wc threats.

we need these next three badly.

And this is how it plays out if the team with the higher total weighted DVOA (Football Outsiders) wins every matchup:

And people wonder why fans actively "root" for division foes against some of these teams we would fight against for a wildcard.

Like "rooting" for things that help your team is a bad thing.

I never root for a division foe but I will root against the team playing a division foe if it helps us.

Just win out, no problem.

We win next 4, and Eagles drop a game either Titans or Seahawks, we win the division at Philly by beating them a 2nd time.

When there are 3- or more-way ties, a lot of times head-to-head ends up not applying.

If there is a three way tie between Dallas, SF and Seattle, the division tiebreaker is applied between the two West teams. Then the tiebreaker is applied with the highest teams ranked in each division. In a scenario where all 3 finish say 10-6, we will be ranked ahead of Seattle no matter what.

It's very realistic to get in with 10 wins. Niners would only need to lose three times with Arizona, Seattl twice and the Chargers looming.

But yes, it is a far easier to road to just win the division.

Yes but in that scenario SEATTLE would be at 8 wins with arizona twice, the rams and iggles. I could see them winning 3 out of those 4 if that happened.

It breaks my heart to have to tell you this guys but your rooting doesn't actually affect any of the games.
