Please give me reason for hope

I can't even watch the playoffs when the Cowboys aren't in it. I watch the Superbowl for commercials only. Football is over for me once the Cowboys exit and it has been far too early under trainee Jason Garrett. I see little hope in a coach that cost us 2 - 4 games a season with terrible game management.

I'm a football fan. Couldn't imagine not watching the playoffs.

If you look at historical trends, next year only 3 out this year's 8 division winners should return to the playoffs in 2014. That doesn't bode well for Philadelphia given a few things, like Denver and New England still having Peyton and Brady. The Packers still have Rodgers and you have Seattle.

There's a lot of gimmick to the Eagles and I think if they lost McCoy to injury they would be done for.

I suspect the Commanders will be stronger, but I think they didn't do them any favors by starting RG3 in his rookie year. That leaves us and NYG and I think NYG has the superior coach, but more word to do in the offseason.

Hopefully they'll at least not get so injured this year. It's a joke that people are willing to gleefully ignore the injuries.

To me, the NFL is pretty simple. If you have a good pass defense, running game and good tight end, you can do well. The Cowboys have 2, the only thing lacking is the passing game.

Don't get me wrong, I have my gripes, worries and skepticism about this team. But quite frankly it would not surprise me what this team does in 2014. They could get worse, stay the same or get better.

I know there are posters out there who feel positive about the direction of our team.
I feel very bummed out by our future and don't feel good about it at all.
We have basicly treaded water for the last 3 years, while out core of veteran players has aged.
Ware looks done
Witten is productive , yet slowing down
Romo is a huge question mark due to age and injury.
Jerry seems happy with the status quo.
Our cap situation is tight.
Garrett seems to have brought in a better culture, but has issues with game stratagy and clock management.
I still enjoy watching the games, but would like to feel hopeful about
the teams direction for the future.
Does anyone out there feel our arrow is pointing up ?
If so, please share the reasons for your optimism.

Thanks, John

The line looked like a pro line at the end of this year.
The team was +8 turnovers instead of -9 from last year.
The Cowboys have won allot of games through the years without Ware. He would be missed but not irreplaceable.
Jerry has never been happy with the status quo he's just made some bad decisions.
I think Garrett makes more adjustment to his approach to game calling next year and there were a couple times this year when I though I seen the temper you expect from a redhead coming through, I think thats gonna help him next year too.
There will be changes made to the conditioning program next year in an attempt to eliminate missed time due to hamstrings in particular. This is one of those areas where Jerry can throw some money down to get the solutions and he will flex his wallet if it'll fix the problem. I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't any hamstring problems next year and the conditioning will be top notch.
Another draft and another crop of UDFA's will give this team some much needed depth.

I think next year will be the first one since Romo took over where I have very little optimism to start the season.

I see a regression on the horizon.

Bro, if you need someone to give you hope then you are beyond help. You need to do that on your own, just do your due diligence, research look back over this season and compare it to the 2010 season when Garrett took over at midseason, understand that Garrett is inexperienced and is learning, it really is a process, and he is learning, has been learning every day, practice, game, and season. In his 3 seasons he has not faltered, but nor has he progressed, if you are going strictly by his 8-8 seasons. Yes, the records are the same, but there has been progress most fan will not see it, but the ones that know and understand the game can see it. I'll start with the run game and the OLine, both was better this season, the WRs were better but yet the same see Miles Austin about that. The defense and injuries still the same, but this season on our front 7, I do believe we have found a starter in Selvie and maybe another starter plus some depth players. Scandrick got to show that he can be a lead or starting CB if they give him the job, we found that we will need one less LB, because Holloman has shown that he can be one of the starting LBs next season, unless we draft someone that just blows him out of the way and in that case he is a good depth player. Our special teams improved, now they are special. Our HC gets his another draft to add more of his RKGs to the team and organization.

Been watching Brown since high school and think you would be surprised what he could do for the E-Gals full time.

How sad is it that most people here look forward to a man's death in order for their football team to succeed...

I think folks are just kidding, I seriously doubt anybody is actually hoping Jerry will kick the bucket.........................no matter how bad the team gets and no matter how much of a hard on he has for Garrett..........I think fans are just joking around with talk like this...................at least I hope so.

The problem I see is that we are 8-8 three consecutive years and with our cap being in bad shape, the only infusion of talent we are going to have is from the draft.

I dont see how the team jumps from 8-8, 8-8, 8-8, to 10 or 11 wins which will be needed to win the East when the only new talent will be only a handful of rookies.

Add to that Trainee Garrett and his horrible game management that cost us 1 or 2 games a year and I see very little chance for this to be a double digit winning playoff team next year.

I think it is more likely that we are 500 or below than win double digit games next season...................the arrow is pointing down in my opinion.

The OL played much better this year and should improve with more playing time together. I Hope that Garrett will see that, the improved running game and the fact that our aging franchise QB just had his second back surgery and attempt to bring a little more balance to the offense. I hope that Garrett learns what a screen pass is during the off season, Murray and Dunbar could be very effective in the short passing game.

I think he’s a talent. But McCoy is an outrageous talent that makes it so hard to defend that it opens a lot of passing lanes for Foles in that offense. D-Linemen have to change the way they play because of McCoy’s explosive cut-back ability.

I agree with you, but I’m fine with using the draft to infuse talent. That’s the way it should be. The old saying of ‘the road to the Super Bowl is built in April, not March.’

We also have an ‘infusion’ of talent if we can stay healthy.

I still think we go 8-8 again, Garrett gets canned and Romo is on his last legs. But, those are my reasons for optimism.

As a fan of 35 plus years it pains me to say the arrow is pointing down with this core.

but then Jr takes over and who's to say things will change? He probably thinks just like daddy.

One has GOT to hope that Stephen doesn't have the overweening need for public validation his old man does.

Part of Jerreh's insanity had to develop from winning those three Super Bowls with Jimmeh. Stephen isn't going to be fencing that shadow all of his life like Jerreh is.

Even if Stephen takes over, there is hope - certainly more hope than there is going into the third decade of tyranny under Jerreh...

Now that is some hope. Thanks man, I was hanging from the 10th floor.

Not sure Eagles, Chargers or Chiefs fans felt much "hope" last year. Whereas i'm sure the Commanders felt a lot of it.

This is the National Football League.

Enjoy the playoffs knowing that it could be us next year.

Enjoy the offseason. Go outside and do some things. Stay inside and do some things if you're in Minnesota and it's 60 below.

Just for the love of God don't sit around depressed.

If you need something specific....I heard that they implanted adamantium into Romo's back.

All three of the teams you mentioned made changes at one specific significant position in their organization.

We are not.

I hate the Garrett culture. I think it is a culture of cowardice, finger pointing, disarray, and complacency.

I disagree with some of your last points.

I am not a Garrett supporter by any means, but I do not see much finger pointing, if any at all. Cowardice? I see a soft team, but not sure if I would characterize it that way. Finesse is a better way to put it, and that is because Garrett makes it that way--we are not physical.

The disarray I completely agree with. There is far too much bouncing around and reactionary maneuvers, constant change on the defense because it is not valued as a way to win--more of an accessory to the offense. This should be a well oiled directional offense by this point and it is still a jumbled mess. Garrett has been around seven seasons with the same QB. There is no reason it should not be running like a top.

The complacency, well, you can thank the GM who will gladly take 8-8 as long as the team is relevant.

First and foremost, we have the offense to continue to be competitive.

As for the defense, look at what a 31st overall pick did to our Oline. A couple additions to the DL and a healthy Ware an d Crawford could make a huge difference.
