As most of you know , three months ago my wife was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. This year the pink is personal..The financial stress we are under is crippling. Every dollar raised helps people like us in one way or another. This does nothing but raise more awareness for this ugly disease. If you don't like it switch your TV to black and white...:)

I am so sorry. :(

Im all for cancer awareness but a full month of pink uniforms is too much. In my opinion it should be limited to ONE game.

I don't have a problem with it but I lean more towards the side that think it's excessive to do it for a month.

BTW, I think you can still hate cancer and hate see'ing pink at the same time.

Just like the ALS ice bucket challenge thing. That was more about people wanting attention for themselves then it was anything else.

To be fair though that ALS challenge increased donations almost tenfold then the year prior

They can do their month long thing, but have a different set of teams or by divisons, to rotate weeks.

Why do you guys have to exaggerate so much? Pink uniforms? Players forced to wear pink? Neither of those is true. It's optional whether or not a player wears pink. Many do. Many don't. And it certainly isn't the whole uniform for any team or player. What difference does it really make other than reminding people of the reason they're wearing it in the first place? Any why not breast cancer? Should Jerry Lewis be forced to stop doing the Muscular Dystrophy campaign in favor of some other disease? Why? Every individual/corporation has the right to choose causes of their choice to champion. The color for prostate cancer is blue. Would you all be OK if the players wore blue stuff? If yes, then you're a bunch of hypocrites. And so what if it's a whole month? That really shouldn't matter unless you just have a problem with the NFL doing something that pertains to females. I know....none of you mean it that way, right? Blah blah blah. If you can't say anything nice....you know the rest.

It may not seem like it but this thread is a sociological goldmine of American culture as it relates to the concept of gender.

I wonder what the male/female opinion breakdown has been thus far?

I think this season it should be for Domestic Abuse, Spousal Abuse, and Child Abuse, ... whatever color that is.

Do baseball and basketball do this sort of thing too?

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer refuses to wear the AIDS ribbon and gets beaten up.

http://www.healthline.com/health/directory-awareness-months

For members who are unaware (no pun intended), the link above leads to a listing of health awareness dates, weeks and months. It does not comprise all such observations but it is a substantial list. This is primarily for anyone believing the NFL is being too socially conscious in regards to U.S. public health promotion.

Really? It raised over $100 million dollars. What ever works for a good cause in my book.

FYI - just from an optics standpoint - the pink accessories worn by the players and officials last night were a muted pink, not the bright pink from years past. I think it's a subtle message from the league that they "toned it down" a bit this year.

What I thought was pretty cool though, Oregon's jerseys last night were black with pink numbers. Some probably hated it but I thought they looked awesome.

Pretty insensitive...

Call yourself lucky to, assumingly, never had a close person get breast cancer or even die of it.

Have some class and delete this

It's not an issue of class, and it's not insensitive to wish the NFL's annual PR campaign aimed at attracting more female viewers would cease. Frankly, I find the entire thing insulting.

I've got a screen door for your submarine to sell you if you really believe the NFL does it "because it's the right thing to do." They make a TON of money on all the pink stuff and only donate a fraction of those profits to cancer research.

We wish your wife to make a complete recovery and be as well as possible doing so. You have my best regards and prayers.

Hopefully this will allow others to understand the sensitivity of the issues here.

HI. This is probably my first post, if it isn't eh. If it is, nice to finally meet all of you.
The Pink thing, kind of a good thing, kind of a great thing actually. Yes, yes we all know that breast cancer is a terrible thing and some of you do not need to be constantly reminded of it on any given Sunday. A lot of folks do though, and it kind of raises a metric ton of money.

Speaking of money, the NFL does also indeed exploit the topic and it is an uptic in sales. I remember a few short years ago plenty of people making fun of a girl-friend in a pink 'Romo' jersey. Now, at the stadium, during this campaign you can't find one. Irony...

Back on point. This post does kind of reak of insensitivity. I'm not sure if that was the intention, but it is how I interrupted it.

Reading through, plenty of exaggeration and hyperbole as well, along with the always expected 'absolute statement'

The color of Demarco's sneakers is not going to be the cause nor the effect of 149 yards and a touchdown.

Back to football?

Who says the only way to fight breast cancer is to wear pink clothes? Maybe we could still have breast cancer awareness month without that. Maybe use a graphic on the screen saying it's breast cancer awareness month. Show TV spots asking for donations. Have a deal with "Every pizza you buy sends 5% toward breast cancer research." Do TV spots with celebrities -- whatever raises money. When did pink clothing become magical? I thought well-funded research created a better chance for a cure than pink clothes did.
