Yeah, it's a good cause and i have to agree with the OP there are plenty of others to be aware of as well. Be very blessed you don't have it in your life.

I think my first knee jerk last night was and probably the initial reason for this thread is the fact Dallas is not very good usually in "Pink".

September has been kind to Cowboys fans as the recent past teams go. October and the "Mighty December" Months not so good.

This current Cowboys team is starting to erase some of those bad vibes and as it goes forward will get even better. Really, the only thing that bothers me at this point is the QB position in a couple years.

I don't think there is evil intent in the OP's post or a desire to be insensitive, but I can certainly understand how this would offend or hurt some. Probably a good idea to move or delete.

I think it's interesting that the NFL chooses a single type of cancer to throw its weight behind for a month, but I'm ok with any kind of disease awareness drives. There aren't nearly enough. As for the whole pink thing, I really don't care what color players wear. As long as the boys with the star on their helmets win, I'm good.

I think that they've done a really good job in raising awareness of the disease and it probably goes a long way towards softening the NFL's often thugish mercenaric image. Unfortunately, more and more people are becoming aware of the NFL's pure profit motivation behind the merchandising aspect of the program and the paltry percentage of Pink sales that they actually contribute to cancer research, so it may have diminishing returns for the league going forward.

I think it is to reach another demographic which is women who make up a pretty good chunk of football fans and an issue that affects them in large numbers. I'm not a big fan of the pink but if it brings awareness and money in to give to research then the price of wearing some pink on Sunday is worth it.

The league uses the color on its jerseys and other apparel in an effort to raise money for breast cancer research, but according to the report, the breakdown of how the money from sales of the apparel gets distributed is as follows: 50 percent to the retailer; 37.5 percent to the manufacturer; 8.1 percent to the American Cancer Society for research; 3.24 percent to the administration at the Society; and 1.25 percent to the NFL.

According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the league "takes a 25% royalty from the wholesale price (1/2 retail), donates 90% of royalty to American Cancer Society." According to the Business Insider report, citing information from the NFL, any money the league makes that is not donated to the American Cancer Society goes directly toward covering the costs of the actual Breast Cancer Awareness program

I dont care that pink is all over. It doesnt bother me like it does the OP and other posters.

But this pie chart, I have known for many years now, that the cause does not benefit as it should.
I do not understand why there is no oversight on this.
Zuckerberg donated x amount to school in New Jersey and they money is gone and I believe the only thing they got out of it was plans drawn up to improve the facilities and thats it. Money is gone. Nothing improved.

Also, in many case, the administrative side takes a much bigger cut. Its disgusting.

As long I have my wife living and breathing by my side, I'm not going to mind the NFL wearing pink for a month. I just think that maybe a little of the money went to help catch my wife's breast cancer early enough so my daughter and I can enjoy having her around for a while longer and she can enjoy being with us. at least I THINK she enjoys being around us. :p

Pretty insensitive...

Call yourself lucky to, assumingly, never had a close person get breast cancer or even die of it.

Have some class and delete this

or maybe a self serving association by the NFL to further entice woman to become part of the fan base and sell pink garb.

Yeah, I have no probs with it.

I would be just as happy if they just put the pink ribbon on the field, sale merchandise with the pink and NFL donated money but players wearing pink I can deal with it. lol

Having family members who have had breast cancer, I don't personally have an issue with pink cleats, towels, gloves, etc. in the NFL to raise awareness for breast cancer. The only change I wish they would make is for them to limit it to one weekend rather than multiple weekends. I think one weekend with a little more publicity and focus would be more effective in raising awareness and less annoying to those fans who despise seeing pink on a football field.

While it is always a good thing when large organizations promote good causes, the truth is that breast cancer awareness in the NFL is and has always been mainly a marketing scheme by the NFL to bring in more female viewers. While I can appreciate the publicity and awareness it brings to a serious disease affecting a lot of people in the country, I wish the NFL would choose to bring awareness to a lot more than one form of cancer.

If the NFL wants the marketing publicity for the whole month, perhaps rather than having a Breast Cancer awareness month, they could have a Cancer awareness month and make each weekend in October a promotion for a different type of cancer that affects a lot of people such as colon, lung, prostate, etc. cancers or even non-cancer diseases.

I will see if I can find Goodell number so you can pass along this ideal. I like it.

Nah. Makes too much sense.

I don't mind the pink, but I do think it's overdone. IIRC when they 1st started, it was for a week. Now the entire month.
So be it, it's not hurting anyone or anything, it only helps. Just don't make the football pink....

Now that pie chart does bother me. This is always the issue I have with charities, most of it goes to line others pockets. How many people make a living off of charities. I understan they can't make this merchandise for free, but yet they rely on the consumer to pay high prices. What are the manufacturers and retailers donating?
Actually I think they need to dedicate time, money and effort to The Shriners and St. Judes, or any other charity, that help children.

Now I see a blast of commercials from nomore.org. I never heard of it before, but after all the domestic violence going on now in the NFL, this shows up. Is it new?

It's all fine, if it helps.
