Shallow? And Guns was never "hair metal"
Perhaps the most shallow band ever. All about chicks and anthemic rock.

Hell, their best song was a Wings cover.

Yes, imo they were Hair. But they were also metal, as I stated in my post.

******* sleezy arse band. Slash was all they had.

I know this isn't popular here. I know.

Izzy Stradlin should NEVER be overlooked. He was their version of Ronnie Wood and never "played by the rules". I named one of my damn dogs after him.

I got it, Sarge. I'm very sorry if I offended. I just don't like them. Perhaps I should have taken an easier way of putting it. I know their fan base is huge and doesn't like to hear the sort of stuff I'm saying. Sorry, my dear friend.

I know another name of one of your dogs, RIP :)

Their music totally creeps me out. I can't stand it.
My wife was the same with Pink Floyd. Put on Dark Side of the Moon after I spent three hours to convince her to see The Ring with me (many moons ago), after watching I popped that in in the movie theater parking lot and she went about ape **** LOL

One of my all time bands. Top-50 for me.

I guess if you only listen to the radio songs.Coma, Estrange, Perfect Crime, even WTTJ was about the dark side of pursuing fame. Just never seen that phrase used with them before.

I rarely listen to the radio. I respect that you like them. Was just voicing my opinion, my brother, McLovin.

I could've been more chill about it. My bad.

Lol. ;). I wasn't offended. I am just a huge fan MORE of Izzy Stradlin than I am of GnR if you can believe it. My friend Rick Richards plays on all of his solo records.

No, not offended, your opinion is your opinion. I had just never heard anyone say they were shallow before. Poison, yes, W bands yes. But Axl was known as a perfectionist and was OCD about lyrics and phrasing. I was just looking for what formed that opinion, that is all

Probably the radio stuff LOL <hides in shame>

I don't like 80s metal. It was all about babes and hooking up and partying.

Poison is most certainly garbage, but we'd both have to agree that's hair metal.

I love 80s music (Joel, Young, Non-gospel Dylan phases, INXS, Journey [somewhat], Simon, Gabriel, etc), just not the metal. The transition from the greatness of the 70's to that of the greatness of the early 90's (Lo-fi, shoegaze, grunge, etc)... you just have this low hanging fruit of a weird time in music (Metal, and again, for me), where it was more anthemic and shallow and party/sex based. Whether fair or not.

It's just a difference in taste. I don't tell people not to listen to them, of course. I like some music that other people hate. Man, did I ever get flak in school about liking Kiss.

He has a ton of solo work. He's very Stonesy. Ronnie Wood actually played on his first one. Trust me though, he's not Exile on Main Street Stones, but I always liked him.

Exile on Main Street!! How beautiful, Sarge. Wood Sounds like an 80s version of John Frusciante.

I'll check this fella out, brother. These threads do a lot of good, as do the Music thread. Exposure is always nice. Still, can't stand Axl. Makes my ears bleed. Sorry, fellers.

Thanks again, Big Sarge :star:

I get it. It's all subjective

I used to teach guitar, and abhorred the 90s and grunge. In retrospect, there are some good songs, but I could never for the life of me figure out why a kid would take 3 lessons, learn the entire Nevermind catalog (no sarcasm) and quit.
