Dak showed signs of being the future franchise QB for the Cowboys.

I was more concerned about the QB than I was about winning 1 game.

Many QBs have come to the NFL with the required physical tools but few have the mental-makeup to be great players. Dak showed excellent mental-makeup.

He needs to improve his accuracy. He has shown that he can make the throws but needs to do it more consistently. He appears to have decent mechanics so improving shouldn't be that difficult.

Improving accuracy for a guy with decent mechanics should be easier than trying to change a player's mental makeup.

Most QBs the Cowboys have tried to develop failed due to their mental-makeup not from a lack of physical ability.

Weeden - Slow witted. Didn't want to get hit.

Quincy - Self explanatory.

Henson - Couldn't deal with mistakes. Weak emotionally. Lacked top competitiveness.

Hutchenson - Zero pocket awareness.

Several others - Couldn't make good decisions quickly and/or under duress.

I agree 100%. All he needs is more game experience. We found our future at QB. Now lets build him a defense that allow him to make some mistakes early in his career.

With the front offices strategy it should only take 7 years to build the defense.

Not if they keep hitting on 1st rounders like they have been. They have a few guys that they can build this defense around. Its not nearly as far away as you make it sound. Its gonna all depend on Jaylan Smith on how fast this defense turns around but I see a few guys who at one point we thought had star ability. Byron Jones, Demarcus Lawrence, Jaylan Smith, Randy Gregory, Mo Claiborne.....not saying these guys are stars or ever will be. But these are guys we expected big things from and the jury is still out on them. If they can hit their potential you are looking at a completely different defense.

As much as i like Dak- i thought he was very average yesterday. Lets not look at it with rose colored glasses. He was fortunate to not have any turnovers and he took almost zero chances- way too many checkdowns for my liking

and what exactly would you have liked from a 4th round pick thrust into action a year ahead of schedule?

what would you have asked of him to ensure you keep him growing at a pace important to him as well as the team while building up his confidence?

dez catches that TD pass, and a few other drops NOT dropped and it could have been a very different game to be sure. when he had to throw with precision, he did. he didn't get flustered at a high dollar defense, now did he?

it seems you're picking on things for the sake of picking on them. to me he had a good outing. nothing outstanding but nothing horrible and something to build off of.

timing was a bit off and he threw a few high on several plays. but again, rookie. these are pains we go through to one day arrive at the point where we can say he checks down too much, or doesn't take enough chances.

but can we wait until he has more than 1 game under our belt before we rag on him?

I saw very little to make me believe Dak is the QB of the future. It takes more than poise and his accuracy issues after the first few possessions were very concerning to me. I really thought after what I saw in pre-season that this kid had a chance but it was almost like I was watching two different QB's. Unfortunately, I have little faith that this coaching staff can use what Prescott does well and put him in a position to succeed.

did you declare romo our next 10 year qb after 1 game?

i think his success in preseason led people to forget is *is* a rookie and what, 7 other qb's were taken ahead of him. i'll give him the year to see what he does cause at this point, declaring him a bust after 1 game is self serving and unrealistic anymoreso than saying he's the next big one.

he's the next one up. nothing more, nothing less. what he becomes we'll find out in time.

I thought he looked very mediocre in the second half, but in the first half he looked very crisp and decisive. About what I expected for a debut.

His accuracy didn't look as pin-point sharp as it seemed in the preseason, particularly on deep throws.

How was he fortunate not to have turnovers yet you seem to forgot two of his passes were dropped for td's?

I missed most of the third, but I agree with this.

But on his tosses to the endzone in the first half, I thought he put good touch on those medium to long passes. Dez just needed to hold on.

Overall though, encouraging first game.

Deep throws were terrible. Either behind or out of bounds. Checked down too often. 3rd and 12 and checked down to jwit and the giants blitzed everyone; he had Dez in man.

He played well for a first timer. Bease should have had a TD.

People got their panties tight, Dak was good for a rookie but he was just OK. The game reminded me of Weedens in ATL last year with the check downs

Dez was in man and couldn't get no separation 2 dropped td passes by him and Beasley. I'm so sick of dez trying to play catch with himself. 6 drops by the receivers.

Romo was an UFA and no one ever declared Romo the next "one." Our owner has told us Dak was the best QB drafted this year and had some of us believing Romo may never see the field again.

We were also critical of the top drafted QB's after the pre-season and were quick to judge. Now we want to tap the brakes. And I was guilty of that as well. I liked what I saw from Prescott but what I saw initially were poise, touch and accuracy. And poise is a very subjective thing to judge, but not the other two. I saw one (poise) out of three but that's not enough.

We could have lost yesterday but I wanted to see something more from my future franchise QB. I said before the season started that the thing we need to know by the end of the season is if this kid is the next one. I think the Eagles got a glimpse of that yesterday, win or lose. We did not.
