Dink and dunk isnt bad for a QB in his situation, but you have to be willing to attack as well. Thats what killed us with Weeden last year. Dak was willing but he needs to be more of a threat. If he can connect on a couple balls over the next couple games, the dink and dunk will work because will know we will attack if opportune and can succeed. But we need to connect to make them think that

Its the stupid Witten screen pass is what's kind of upsetting me. They give to Beasley and Witten and pray they can get some YAC.......I don't understand that thinking. You will slant Beasley to death but won't slant Williams or Dez? I'd love to know what routes they even have Dez and Williams running. Whitehead could've got more involved yesterday too. You have so many weapons........yet, the only ones used are Beasley and Witten.......

These are valuable reps for Dak.
I fully expect him to use these games early in the season as a baseline to grow on once Romo returns as the starter sometime between weeks 6 and 8.
When Dak's time comes to take over the reigns full-time, I think he might be good. Maybe very good.

The Eagles found their quarterback of the future and won the game. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

They were also playing the browns. I can't emphasis this enough. That team is terrible on defense. Does anyone in their right mind think Wentz would have played like that going up against the Giants? Have you seen how he reacts under pressure?

I can't wait in two to three weeks when it shows that the Giants are simply just a damn good defensive team.

FTR: I think the Cowboys should draft a quarterback in the first round in May, whether Dak is good or bad, brilliant or disastrous. I said that before yesterday's game. What I really fear is that Dak will play OK this year, show some promise, and Jerry will give him a 12-year $350 million contract.

I don't doubt the Giants have a good defense.

However, when the cowboys are playing against a rookie head coach at home, I would think a head coach entering his sixth year might have the advantage.

No, we don't get to wave our hands and say, "It's the Browns, dude."

Rookie HC doesn't matter when they have a proven DC and a 200 million dollar defense and a successful veteran QB. This isn't some team in a gigantic rebuilding stage. All they have is a new HC, the supporting cast around him is great.

After six years of Garrett, I can safely say a head coach does matter. I mean, Garrett inherited Demarcus Ware, Jason Witten, and the most prolific passer in Cowboys history

What I saw from Dak from my seat at the stadium. I thought Dak looked really good in the first half. Very cool. Good decisions with the ball. Good ball protection. Very good at working the pocket. Very good pocket awareness. Good accuracy on short throws. It is hard for a defender to bring him down unless they wrap him up. He didn't appear to be rattled at all in his first start. Very good confidence in his game at any level, especially for a rookie.

I really believe that the game plan sucked. We kept running Zeke nonstop in the face of really bad fronts and put Zeke in a bad position. We also put Dak Ina bad position repeatedly, and he did a very good job of making lemonaid out of lemons.

Morris had some success, more than Zeke actually, but the fronts he saw were very different than the wholesale defense pounding on Zeke play after play. The play calling was totally grade school level play calling in the first half for sure.

The defense knew we were going to run it on first down with Zeke damn near every first down. Pass the ******* ball on first down at least occasionally to keep the defense honest.

Dez dropping the ball is pretty much inexcusable. Holy ****, he has done the hard part of catching the ******* ball. It's not that hard. Quit trying to understand the rule Dez and just hold that ******* ball like your life depends on it. No defensive back is going to pry that ball loose from him once he locks down on it but he seems to find a way to let it squirt out at the end of the play.

Dak played well enough to win yesterday. We should have won that game. We let another one get away . Our defense played ok with the exception of the gashes in the running game at the end of the game. We could have survived the gashes in the running game if Dez and the midget don't drop touchdown passes.

I don't know why we didn't run a single screen or reverse. Or anything at all misdirection at the Giants. That sucks.

Dak showed signs of being the future franchise QB for the Cowboys.

I was more concerned about the QB than I was about winning 1 game.

Many QBs have come to the NFL with the required physical tools but few have the mental-makeup to be great players. Dak showed excellent mental-makeup.

He needs to improve his accuracy. He has shown that he can make the throws but needs to do it more consistently. He appears to have decent mechanics so improving shouldn't be that difficult.

Improving accuracy for a guy with decent mechanics should be easier than trying to change a player's mental makeup.

Most QBs the Cowboys have tried to develop failed due to their mental-makeup not from a lack of physical ability.

Weeden - Slow witted. Didn't want to get hit.

Quincy - Self explanatory.

Henson - Couldn't deal with mistakes. Weak emotionally. Lacked top competitiveness.

Hutchenson - Zero pocket awareness.

Several others - Couldn't make good decisions quickly and/or under duress.

You nailed it. Lets stop talking about "winning now" and SB's and enjoy the maturation of this kid. The quicker he gets up to speed and the quicker this coaching staff learns how to call a game with him the better off we will be.

As much as i like Dak- i thought he was very average yesterday. Lets not look at it with rose colored glasses. He was fortunate to not have any turnovers and he took almost zero chances- way too many checkdowns for my liking

Dak was great yesterday.

Dak stood in there with JPP breathing down his neck numerous times. Not sure why Free didnt get some help from time to time. Our coaches suck!

Deep throws were terrible. Either behind or out of bounds. Checked down too often. 3rd and 12 and checked down to jwit and the giants blitzed everyone; he had Dez in man.

He played well for a first timer. Bease should have had a TD.

People got their panties tight, Dak was good for a rookie but he was just OK. The game reminded me of Weedens in ATL last year with the check downs

First TD pass to Dez was a thing of beauty. Dez dropped it. The kid played a hell of a game.

For first game ever yes, he did really well. Helluva game? Nah, he did the checkdown game. Its only impressive as a first game, if it continues, we lose every game without Romo.

Was the TD to Dez a checkdown? We moved the ball and should have had 2 more dropped TD's. That is a hell of a day. 45 passes and no picks. Heck of a performance.

Conservative, check down style is the Jason Carrott backup QB special game plan.

He needs to take more chances to Dez. The second half it was almost like Garrett and Linehan grabbed him and handed him the 2015 QB gameplan
