QB is the most important position on a team...by far. I thought Dak was fine yesterday for a guy making his first start as a rookie.

Although, I am tired of our fans and mostly our front office hyping up guys after guys, year after year telling us this "guy" will be great, only to see mostly disappointment. Our front office needs to have a very critical eye to Dak (Is this something they can do or something we can have confidence in?). He is not going to be a top 10 QB this year and he should be far from a finished product, but Dallas needs to use an objective and critical eye to see if Dak can be a potential top 10 QB over the next 2 years. If they come to an answer of no or if there is doubt, they need to continue to look for that QB.

We tend to put the horse in front of the cart every year. I am just tired of it and feel like we are getting further from being an elite team as the years go on. The sad thing is with the exception of an outlier in 2014, we have been as mediocre as mediocre can be. It just really sucks when even when you are mediocre, you feel like you are still continuing to lose ground to your competitors.
Amen. You aint kidding. Same every year ALL the draft picks are going straight to the HOF BEFORE they have played a down in the NFL.

Dak and Zeke playing well was my top priority yesterday. Realistically I didn't expect a sb or even a deep playoff run with this defense and without Romo half the season. But potentially getting a future qb for Romo was huge. It's the most important aspect of this season I cannot emphasize that enough.

it's the front offices job to hype up players.

most should know better but for some reason they get sucked into it every time and act as if the front office is telling the truth vs. selling the team.

It was the game plan people. If this kid had been drafted in the 1st, nobody would be jumping ship after a single game.

He has everything it takes to succeed. He just needs time. Freaking bipolar fans to think 1 game makes a career. Wow...

I don't know about jumping ship, personally. But I think there was enough yesterday to state that while you want to see more from Prescott there is also some concern that maybe he won't be the next Romo.

That's not good or bad. It's just what it is.

how? 2 TDs were dropped. he wasn't "the starter" til the 3rd pre-season game so his prep changed with 1 week to go OF WHICH he didn't play in the last pre-season game.

i *want* dak to succeed. so far i like the kid and i'd rather not go through the revolving door of QB's again but nothing - i repeat NOTHING can tell you what you have in 1 game.

why people need instant judgements in things is so beyond me. insane.

Did you even read my post?

You just said what I said. He didn't succeed enough or fail enough to reach a prediction on his future after one game.

Dak played ok. Good for a 4th round rookie playing his first game.

But honestly, all this talk about having our next franchise QB is a bit premature. He needs more time. He's going to have his growing pains. All these posters who expected him to light it up are simply delusional Cowboy fans.

But I saw nothing that indicated to me that he is going to be our QB for the next 10 years.

As much as i like Dak- i thought he was very average yesterday. Lets not look at it with rose colored glasses. He was fortunate to not have any turnovers and he took almost zero chances- way too many checkdowns for my liking

I understand and agree about rose colored glasses.

But in my clear vision. The veterans dropped two TDs on him.
So, as much as he was "fortunate".... He was "unfortunate" too.

That is just not true. The job of the front office/talent evaluates is to find the right coaches, Find the right players who fit your system and to win games. Everything else is meaningless.

Every team will say that their draft picks are just what they expected or so or so free agent will be the difference, but dallas has continued to eat the cheese year after year. They almost seem to hope something to be right. What is that saying, hope is not a strategy... I almost get the feeling we close our eyes and hope we are surprised. More often than not, we are not.

Seeing that i the job of our front office to hype players and not have a critical eye, makes me think the brainwashed has worked over the Dallas fans. Again, I put no stock with front office people saying something to the press. Although Dallas really does seem to believe this and year after year they prove to be more wrong then right. .500 ball with an near elite QB is pretty embarrassing over the past 10 years.

let me reiterate - in this case the front office is jerry jones.

it's his job to sell the team so when he comes out and talks all bright and shiney about dak, it's got nothing to do with dak but jerry in sales mode.

so when people come in here all butthurt jones said something stupid, i just move on these days. of course he did. and it will only get worse as times goes by. yet people, who say jones says stupid crap all the time, still believe him when he's in sales mode.

sigh - brainwashing. will get happy when this fad-word is over again.

I just want them to let him play! Play his game. Where is a naked bootleg run for crying out loud?? On the zoneread where Zeke grabbed the ball the DE crashed in bigtime and he could have had a lot of yards had Zeke not taken it.

These coaches have never had a player like this so they don't know how to use him properly IMO.

The run game completely let him down in the second half.it's really hard for any QB when you are 3rd and long every drive.

True but then again when the defense is loading up to stop the run, the coaching staff has to come up with ways to attack that with the passing game. Get Bryant more involved. Make the Giants think twice about sliding Collins down into the box.

But we did none of that. That was your typical Jason Garrett, play close to the vest, BS game plan yesterday. And I have no doubts it will continue because Garrett truly believes the wins will come as long as we dominate TOP.

I can't believe we have at least 2 more seasons of him before Jerry wakes up.

I think you can tell a lot about a QB when watching his feet when he drops back. A lot of guys, including all of our backups last year, would drop back and almost instantly be jittery, looking to move up or back in the pocket when they didn't have to. There was nothing calm about them; they'd be dancing and never get their feet set. This obviously causes a lot of problems. I didn't see any of that from Dak. He'd drop back and trust the guys around him, and showed good pocket presence which I think all the best QBs consistently show. Definitely encouraging.

Dak was fine and not the reason we lost a close one. His education started yesterday, not in camp or pretend games and he responded well but throwing it 45 times could not have been the game plan.

I was watching some pregame stuff yesterday, and lamenting over just how bad it is, and one of the reports was that the Giants DC watched every piece of film he could get of Dak from college so he did his homework and while 45 passes might not have been our game plan, it sure as hell was his.

The rap on Dak in college last season was that he put the team on his back and that was too much. They have to find a way to let Dak be the game manager and that doesn't include throwing 45 passes.

Which is exactly what was feared. The lack of innovation to use his skill set was a little alarming. When Linehan said he was running their scheme without any special tailoring, he was not kidding.
Naw he wasn't at all......I know it was "vanilla defenses" like people love to remind us in the preseason but it sure seemed like they opened things up a bit more in preseason than they did yesterday.......

He took a few shots. I don't they are going with a Weedenesque gameplan. Honestly I didnt have much issue with gameplan, it didnt work because we were playing what could very well be a top defense this year and they played very well. They seemed to have the deep ball defended well. With there LBs the short and intermediate passing was there to be exposed and we had a few misfires there

I personally think they are encouraging him to dink and dunk to Beasley and Witten more than he should. But I get it. He's a rookie and the gameplay SHOULD'VE worked yesterday. I wouldn't abandon what they want to do just yet.

Dink and dunk isnt bad for a QB in his situation, but you have to be willing to attack as well. Thats what killed us with Weeden last year. Dak was willing but he needs to be more of a threat. If he can connect on a couple balls over the next couple games, the dink and dunk will work because will know we will attack if opportune and can succeed. But we need to connect to make them think that
