The more Jerry talks, the more it sounds like a possible new contract for Garrett. Maybe Jerry should shut up.
It's been like that all year. Look at everything Jerry has said about Jason, about being sure they could go on a run, just need to fix a few things, etc.

He. Does. Not. Want. To. Fire. Him.

If there wasn't a massive amount of media pressure and sports pundits assuming Garrett's fate was a foregone conclusion after today, the ink would be drying on the extension as we speak.

And its not about performance or competence or anything else. Jerry is comfortable coming to work everyday with Jason as coach. He wants to play with his toy the way he wants to, and doesn't want to have to get used to working with a new coach when it comes to his hobby.

Seriously, even if he bites the bullet and does let Garrett go, I think there's is a better chance than many people realize that someone like Richard or Moore are promoted internally who are already in the system and familiar with how Jerry operates and what is expected of them. And yes, that's despite their inexperience - did that stop him with Garrett?

I’m partway hoping Garrett gets a new contract if only to see the place explode

After 9 or 10 years of Garrett bullcrap, I am pretty sure most of us are numb to the point of not really caring. So, some may explode but most will rationalize it as one of those things that are beyond our control and roll with a big whatever.

This. This. This. This.

Yes the NFL is now a 'passing' league.. but as the passing game becomes 'all important' it has actually shown more than ever the importance of the run game.. Teams that run the ball.. use the clock, control the tempo of the game.. teams that don't fall behind and get forced into "fly or die" offence sets.. those teams go to the playoffs.

Passing yards do mean something but not everything. Lots of stat padding can happen especially when teams are getting smarter and smarter about 'managing' players and the game.

It’s fitting Garrett goes 8-8 with the usual collapse in his final season!

Not one coach in the league has a control-the-clock strategy. That is old antiquated coaching that doesn't get you wins. This is why we can throw for a million yards and not win games...

Why do people fail to understand cause and effect? When you are behind you have to pass more, and when you are behind a lot you stack up a lot of passing yards by the end of the season. The passing yards are the effect of a bad team, not the cause of failing to “stick with philosophy”.

I said USE the clock and control the tempo.. and yes turnovers will ALWAYS be important.. NFL is a static game.. unless you make a play to change the cycle then it will be a 50/50 call. However you watch good teams and good coaching.. they absolutely know how to manipulate TOP to their advantage.. using the run game to open up the PA or RPO etc etc.

Seattle today looked poor in the first half.. until they started to get some yards on the ground.. then the game opened up.

I'm not saying there is only 'one' way to win in this league.. but most teams live and die by the strength of their running game (for different reasons) and THIS team, our team.. need to realise that we absolutely depend on our running game. So passing stats are almost meaningless if you want a winning record.

That’s why Richard and Rod have to go with Garrett.
