I guess I could see that possibly happening if they open 1-4 or something...and the rest of division explodes out of the gate.

Can't see it happening between now and game 1, but I've been wrong before.

You and me both brother!

I just think it makes dollars and sense for a team in rebuilding mode with a bad cap situation to make moves for the future if they can. I don't see them getting out of the division basement this year anyway so why not get something for the guy while you can?

Ball on his way to big D!

CBS 4 Denver's Vic Lombardi reports the Broncos are discussing a Montee Ball trade with the Cowboys.

Ball had a highly unimpressive preseason in Denver's zone-rushing attack, but the Cowboys have long been high on his ability and could put him into a rotation with underwhelming Joseph Randle, and injury-prone Darren McFadden. We suspect Ball wouldn't cost more than a seventh-round pick. 24 years old, Ball has a 4.2 yards per carry average with 29 catches through two NFL seasons.

Back to the drawing board...

A Cowboys source told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the team has had "no trade talks" regarding Montee Ball.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also tweeted Friday that the rumor -- which originated from CBS 4 in Denver -- is "not true." The Broncos are known to be shopping Ball, but at the moment it doesn't appear Dallas has genuine interest. If the Broncos can't find a trade partner, it seems likely Ball will be waived.

Likely a false rumor. But possibly misinformation as well

It would surprise me if he was an option. Manning tends to have a unconventional running game but he typically calls for runs when there is an advantage up front. With teams fearing his passing and making good calls when the line has the advantage, the running back typically has pretty good space to run, even in a less than conventional running game. Ball just didn't look very good. Not many breaking tackles, not really any burst and not great vision. Maybe he didn't fit the system but you saw immediately when the Broncos put CJ Anderson in there that the holes were there.

I would pass. Although whenever the Cowboys bring another back in, that player will have plenty of warts. You are not going to get someone off waivers or for a late third day pick that does not have warts.

So there is interest.............

The Fort Worth-Star Telegram reports the Cowboys could have interest in Montee Ball if he's released.

The Cowboys should be smart enough to know Ball is very likely to be waived by the Broncos, whereafter they could acquire him without giving up a draft pick. The Cowboys are not interested in parting with compensation to acquire Ball. Ball remains likely to end up on another team's roster by Monday.

Jaguars waived RB Storm Johnson.

The No. 222 overall pick of last year's draft, made one start and notched 29 carries as a rookie, but averaged just 3.0 yards per tote. He's pretty much the definition of a replacement-level back. He could be headed to the practice squad.

Raheem Mostert - RB - Free Agent
Eagles waived RB Raheem Mostert.

The Eagles would undoubtedly like to stash Mostert on their practice squad, but the rookie will have to pass through waivers first. After he tore up the preseason with 351 total yards, that is not a foregone conclusion.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported the Seahawks are shopping RB Christine Michael.

With Fred Jackson now in the fold and promising rookie Thomas Rawls behind him on the depth chart, Michael is likely viewed as expendable. Inconsistency has always been Michael's modus operandi, and he reportedly was struggling with the same issues in training camp this year. Michael has a ton of natural ability, however, and would be an excellent pickup for a backfield lacking top-end talent. Dallas would be an interesting option.

Turbin is very intriguing and a surprise cut even with him being hurt. I would take him over CM any day and all day.

Seahawks waived/injured RB Robert Turbin.

Marshawn Lynch's primary backup the past two seasons, Turbin has an ankle injury that will cost him five weeks, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It sounds like a high ankle sprain, potentially with ligament damage. RapSheet suggests Turbin could be claimed off waivers, though he didn't put anything positive on tape this preseason, decreasing the odds he is. If Turbin is not claimed, he will head to the Seahawks' injured reserve list. The Seahawks will enter the season with Fred Jackson as Lynch's clear-cut backup. They are reportedly shopping Christine Michael in trade talks, and would like to keep UDFA Thomas Rawls.

Vikings waived RB DuJuan Harris.

Harris, 27, beat out Joe Banyard, but was outlasted by Dominique Williams and Matt Asiata behind Adrian Peterson and Jerick McKinnon at Vikings camp.
