Potential FA RBs

Monte Ball Monte Ball update...
Montee ball rushed 16 times for 27 yards (1.7 YPC) in the Broncos' final preseason game.

It was a disastrous performance against second- and third-string defenders. Ball had one nice eight-yard run where he broke a tackle and gained extra yards, but after that he was the same sluggish back who has tumbled down the depth chart this preseason. It is difficult to see a future for Ball in Denver, and it would be surprising if he survives final cuts.

He won't even beat out the kid I mentioned from yesterday. I think Ball is going to get cut. When that happens I will be a tad surprised if the Boys don't take a flier on this guy. Not even a full season removed from starter and fantasy darling. He get the TRICH treatment here imo and is given another chance. If the boys bring him in I don't think it will be as the starter I feel it will be to replace Gus.

Rasheem Mostert broke out for 162 yards on 23 touches in Thursday’s preseason loss to the Jets.

He caught 93 yards worth of passes and added another 69 yards on the ground. Mostert has made a compelling case this preseason with 361 yards on 53 touches, though it’s tough to see him overtaking Kenjon Barner for the final spot at running back. He’s likely headed to the practice squad.

Zac Stacy ate up 68 yards on 20 rushes and added two catches for 30 yards and a touchdown in Thursday’s preseason win over the Eagles.

It wasn’t the most efficient effort in the world, though Stacy made a few nice plays including a 25-yard catch on a screen from Matt Flynn. Stacy will finish the preseason with 154 rushing yards on 44 carries and seven catches for another 79 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll open the season third on the running back depth chart.

Stacy was never in danger of being released imo.

Bears rookie Jeremy Langford rushed nine times for 55 yards in the Bears' preseason finale.

He put a bow on his first NFL preseason with 153 yards on 28 runs (5.46 YPC), adding three receptions for 30 yards. Since a slow exhibition opener, Langford has begun to put heat on Jacquizz Rodgers for the Bears' primary backup job behind Matt Forte. In the event of a Forte injury, we suspect Rodgers and Langford would share time. Ka'Deem Carey could be the odd man out.

Ka'Deem ......nah....

Terrance West rushed nine times for 35 yards and caught a 16-yard pass in the Browns' preseason finale.

Isaiah Crowell (rest) and Duke Johnson (concussion) did not play, and after the game coach Mike Pettine announced Crowell has the "edge" to start in Week 1 against the Jets. West has remained up-and-down in his second NFL preseason. He will probably mix in behind Crowell until Johnson gets healthy.

What a mess....with that I don't think West or Crowell are going anywhere right now.

James White totaled 36 rushing yards on 10 carries in Thursday’s preseason loss to the Giants.

White also snagged two catches for 21 yards. He juked a few defenders on his way to a nice nine-yard run late in the first half, setting up a 33-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. White had a chance to secure a role for himself on third downs at the start of camp but was outplayed by Dion Lewis and Brandon Bolden

And they call him Mr Grill....

Chris Johnson rushed 11 times for 45 yards and caught one pass for 10 yards in the Cardinals' fourth preseason game.

He ripped off several chain-moving runs against the Broncos' second- and third-team defenses, showing nice cutback vision and acceleration. Johnson put a move on a defender and gained 10 yards on a swing pass early in the game, and busted through the line on a draw play to pick up 16 yards on a 3rd-and-11. Johnson should be expected to look good against second-team talent, but his acceleration appeared to be intact after an offseason away from football. Johnson should put pressure on Andre Ellington and David Johnson for snaps

Jay Ajayi exited the Dolphins' preseason finale with a chest injury.

He finished with nine carries for 66 yards and two receptions for 37 yards, including a 26-yarder. A forgotten man in Miami, Ajayi rotated with Mike Gillislee in this one and ran hard with the burst he showed at Boise State. Ajayi got off to a painfully slow start in training camp -- struggling in pass protection and battling a hamstring injury -- but if healthy should open the season on the 53-man roster, ideally ahead of LaMichael James and behind Lamar Miller and Damien Williams.

Just cause a larger group was so high on this kid predraft....can you say OVERRATED!!

He's currently running in a zone scheme just like he did in college.

Oh!

Yeah, he's looked terrible. I wanted to trade for him early on but at this point, I don't know what to think.

49ers RB/PR Jarryd Hayne rushed 10 times for 58 yards in Thursday's preseason finale, adding two catches for an additional 17 yards.

The ex-rugby player made one of the plays of the game when he used the big-hit stick on Bolts DB Lowell Rose at the end of a 12-yard reception. Hayne was signed to primarily contribute on special teams, but he wraps up the preseason with 25 carries for 175 yards (7.00 YPC). Adept at making the first defender miss, Hayne's 53-man roster odds are looking mighty good.

He is safe.

The more I see him play, the more I think he's legit. A load to bring down, he lowered his shoulder at the end of a play that negated whatever forward momentum the defender had and dropped him like a sack of potatoes. Impressive. Can't seem to embed the gif, but worth checking out if you guys haven't seen the play yet:

I could not agree more I've watched him in two games and he looks as legit as you can look in preseason.

After the Dallas game, I was hoping that Hayne's emergence would force the 9ers to make a tough decision between Davis and Hunter. Doesn't seem like a tough decision anymore as Davis seems like a lock to make the roster.

Great job on the recaps, btw. A few more names to keep an eye on are Watson and Wilder over at Cincy. And though it seems like an impossibility at this point, I'm still keeping an eye on Juwan Thompson of the Broncos. Montee's performance so far has pretty much guaranteed a spot for Thompson.

Thanks! I will keep my eye out for those two as well!

Let the updates begin!

Seahawks RB Thomas Rawls rushed 11 times for 87 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale.

Rawls' touchdown was a six-yard score on a fourth-quarter read option. The undrafted rookie out of Central Michigan finishes the preseason with 30 carries for 158 yards (5.26 YPC) and a touchdown. He added four catches for an additional 42 yards. Although there was some early-summer noise that Rawls could push Christine Michael for No. 3 duties, it never happened. His most likely home is the practice squad, though Robert Turbin's (high-ankle sprain) health could create an early-season opening.

Rawls is not getting released imo.

Ok -1 down and many to go !

That's the guy I wanted ! He is a beast !:yourock:

Christine Michael rushed eight times for 39 yards in Thursday's preseason finale.

With Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin (ankle) sitting, Michael got the start, taking a handoff from Russell Wilson on the first play of the game. He ran well ahead of UDFA Thomas Rawls, and is clearly locked in as Seattle's No. 3 runner. The talented but inconsistent third-year back closes the book on the exhibition season with 32 carries for 118 yards (3.68 YPC). With Turbin highly questionable for the opener, Michael could get a golden opportunity to make an impression as Lynch's backup.

With Turbin's ankle issue I think he is safe as well and remains a Hawk.

They can keep him
