I think the Cowboys may be shifting away from the 12 personnel grouping, making another dynamic TE in addition to Witten unnecessary. Admittedly, I am basing this belief off of the acquisition of Switzer, who will provide a headache for defensive coordinators lined up in the slot opposite Beasley, with Dez and TWill/Butler manning the outside receiver spots. With Zeke in the backfield and Dak as a run threat, as well, that would be a nightmare for the defensive grouping the opposition would be handcuffed to answer with.

But, of course and as always, I very much could be wrong.

what do the Pat do now?

If I remember correctly, the 12 personnel idea came from the Patriots. If the Cowboys do in fact start using the 10 personnel grouping (which if they use it at all it will be the first time in over a year because they did not use it once in 2016 according to a chart a recently saw) you can probably guess where the Cowboys got the idea.

Either that, or it will simply be because that's how the draft fell. If you recall, there was a debate in the warroom on rather they should take Donnell Pumphrey or Switzer. The Eagles leapfrogged the Cowboys and took Pumphrey the pick before, making the decision easier. Had we got Donnell, who is a RB, chances our we would not use him the way we will use Switzer. And since Switzer's skillset begs for the 10 grouping w/Beasley, it seems like a natural thing to introduce, regardless of what the Patriots have made successful. That said, I'm sure the Linehan and his staff will probably be looking at Patriots offensive tape to steal ideas. Hopefully they take the pick play. I hate it when it happens to us, but if they can get away with it, so can we...I hope.

You would hope that the team plays the way the talent directs them to play, along with misdirection.
We should hope that our coaching staff is innovating, and not just copying, but I get copying success.

It should be a balance of copying success and innovating new successes.

From what I've seen, this coaching staff has a lot to work with, having such a talented, moldable creature as Dak and some great skill positions who can do many things in front of him, along with a line that David Carr prayed for every night his entire career.

No, he is not. He is not a better route runner. He is not a better pass catcher. He is not even a significantly better blocker.

But he's faster, so that means he's better. Much like Randall Williams was better than Miles Austin.

Very well said, sir...and I agree.

In my opinion, this is one of the best iteration of an offense the Cowboys have seen since the 90's, if you consider every position from top to bottom.

The defense is a work in progress, but I'd say there's alot to love on that side of the ball, as well. If they can maintain on the offensive side of the ball, and keep stacking talent on defense, this team is going to be stupid-good over the next 3 years.

Your avi is so killer... I don't even know what's happening, but it's so fitting.

A Cowboy sitting on the face of a Brown. Two storied franchises and look where they are now.

Edit: I said avi, I meant sig. My bizzle-dee-shizzle.
Thanks brother, our friend Guag helped me re-size it for site guidelines.

I love me some Irving when he's beasting, brudda.

I think I might just love this offense this year. I HATE that I missed last year. I hate it. I freaking hate it.

I cannot wait to watch our team this year.

well there are some differences so some tailoring is needed:
1. dak's mobility and experience in read option
2. dez's talents
3. zeke and the OL's run blocking
4. superior OL
5. brady may be more accurate and is far more experienced

the 10 formation may be harder to handle with Dak's unique talents and Zeke's abilities.

the defense would not want to stay in base.
nickel would mean covering zeke with a LB in passing or single covering all receivers
dime would be hurting against the run.

though strange, would be most interested in seeing how the package would like when lining up dez and another large WR in slot and the 2 small slot receivers outside.
how would they defend the run in the nickel or dime?

Second-year defensive end Charles Tapper caught some attention by meeting running back Rod Smith in the backfield and putting some pressure on backup QB Kellen Moore despite being held. Tapper will play a lot Thursday in the Hall of Fame Game after missing his rookie season with a back injury.

-

Serious question. Is this the most impressive training camp from a Cowboy ever?
