DMN | Three’s Company: Cowboys RB Joseph Randle forced to sidelines with strained oblique

Joseph Randle was the latest to stand off to the side. He began the session but was forced to the sidelines early with a strained oblique muscle on his right side.

“We’re going to go in here and figure out what we’ve got to do to get it back right so I can get back out here,’’ Randle said.

The injury isn’t considered serious. But with only one practice remaining until the Cowboys open the pre-season against San Diego on Thursday night _ a game Randle was going to be used sparingly if at all _ there’s a good chance he will get some time off here.

Because they were injured.

No, not the reason. Garrett said this before Randle injury today, and said if any of the 3 were not going to play regardless if injured or not.
He said this last Friday..

I was at the camp and the crowd was wowed with Gus Johnson. It will be very interesting to see who starts this opening preseason game with the 1s. With that said, Brandon Weeden is completely awful.

Oblique strains put baseball players on the disabled list. Randle might not be right for a while.

Eh -Randle and McFadden were already injured, MRI's and such, that's why they were ruled out - who knows if Randle would have played if he wasn't hurt. It's not a good situation, despite the damage control.

If Free goes down for any significant amount of time, I'd rather have Collins take his place over Weems. I'd rather have our 5 best on the field. I know Collins is competing with Leary for the LG job and Weems is getting all the snaps at RT, but our best 6 are the starting 5 plus Collins, and after that it's not even close. It would be a tragedy to have anyone other than those 6 on the field for a long stretch of games.

I just have a feeling that Collins is a left guard this year at that is it. if we need another tackle the cowboys will go sign another one. Collins has not had any reps at tackle so far this season. the cowboys only want him as guard this year maybe next year Collins will play the tackle spot. I really hope that randle is ok. then again it would be something if Johnson makes this team and plays a lot for a undrafted rookie.

And 'air' has already taken out one of our running backs!

I guess it's a tougher competitor than I ever thought.

Joe Randle has been with a trainer Jim Maurer and now he is watching the rb drills with his helmet off.

Once again....Garrett said none of the 3 were going to play. Randle was not hurt at that time.
Dunbar was hurt the day before Garrett said this. But it was already determined none were going to play. McFadden wanted to try to give it a go on Saturday, but the coaches decided to hold him out for another week.

But still none were going to play.

This line is so good it's going to end up making Gus Johnson a star. Sheesh.

So you will be comfortable with this group of guys who aren't getting consistent reps? These aren't vets. Randle or Dunbar have no experience in being a big part of the run attack. Much different than just coming in for a few plays here and there.

I still don't see any panic from the Cowboys over this.

because 2/3 were hurt - so, Garrett's statement was kind of meaningless to begin with, that's all I was trying to point out.

It's like you haven't paid attention to what the first preseason game means for offensive starters. Most teams simply don't give their 1's work. It's just prudent roster management and it allows coaches to evaluate fringe players before first cuts.
