I think B probably happens with a decent shot at C. It will most definitely be a retread, probably an old retread like Pete Carroll or Rex Ryan.

Whatever happens, I don’t want a past coach(Moore) or player(Witten) returning at all. I think this teams best bet over the next few years is through the defense and a ball-controlled offense. Give me a good, defensive minded HC and make that unit elite.

I want D, but no way JJ doesn’t get credit for building a winner.

So, probably B. JJ is too weak to do what’s needed.

Either McFraud is given an extension or Jerry holds out to sign Kellen Moore as the new HC.

One of those 2 things is my prediction.

At the conclusion of this dismal 2024 Cowboys season, a scenario about the future of Mike McCarthy will unfold regardless of of the outcome in Sunday’s meaningless final game against Washington.

Below are four possible scenarios I see happening although there certainly could be more I don’t see. Which one do you predict will actually happen and also tell us why you believe that will happen?
  • SCENARIO A: Mike McCarthy‘s contract expires and the Cowboys let him ride off into the sunset with no press conference or other public comment from the Jones people or from Big Mac. McCarthy ends up being hired elsewhere.
  • SCENARIO B: A few days after the season ends, Jerry holds a press conference to announce Mike McCarthy has been extended with a new 3 year contract and a raise bringing his pay from 16th highest paid to top 10. (Jerry is famously cheap paying his HCs)
  • SCENARIO C: (An addition to scenario A) Big Mac leaves, is not renewed. A week before the SB, Jerry announces the hiring of another experienced head coach, perhaps even a ”retread”. Could be Mike Zimmer, Pete Carrol, or a younger Brian Flores or someone similar. And…perhaps Jason Witten is brought on staff to be designated HC in waiting to be mentored and prepared much like Jason Garrett was. Smh. (Didn’t include Mike Vrabel because no way JJ hires a guy who clashes with his bosses like he did in Tenn)
  • SCENARIO D: Big Mac leaves, and the week before the SB, Jerry announces the Cowboys are hiring a young guy who has never been a head coach before. Someone like Lions DC Aaron Glenn (who once played for Dallas), ravens OC Todd Monken, or some other young gun. (I didn’t include lions OC Ben Johnson because no way he comes to Dallas. He will have better options)
Personally, I would prefer Scenario D because I believe a younger, more cutting edge rising talent would be way better than some retread. The scenario I believe will happen is Scenario B.

So which scenario do you want, which one will actually happen and why?
I would prefer D and have a fresh face come in rather than a retread. Atleast we're trying something different. If they do keep McCarthy I hope they convince him to hire a young upcoming guy bringing new direction to the offense. But probably more of the same.

How could I see this playing out after the season ends? Cowboys standby as McCarthy interviews with other teams and evaluate their options. If he's available for the right price maybe they bring him back, but could see a scenario where another team dips in, similar to how the Cowboys have approached free agency.

Definitely C because the only way to make the franchise appear to still be relevant is to announce some new HC/scapegoat signing and announce SM week. With that said, Jerry is so impulsive it could be anything. If he weren't a coward, he'd put the whistle around his neck and assume his position on the sidelines since he is our hc anyways.

..Harris to DC sounds really interesting.

I can see Mike declining to coach here again.

SCENARIO D: Sounds like how Jerry works.

Jones will not commit to any questions about McCarthy. It will go on for weeks until the week of the Super Bowl. Then the attention Queen will come out with an announcement. Bank it.

The scenario is not there

They are going to announce something after the final game
McCarthy and Zimmer have said they are speaking to Jerry after the game

If McCarthy is out then there would be no conversation on an expiring contract

My guess is: they intend on keeping him but want to know what he's going to do differently

This is dumb since the real issue the front office refusal to do anything to improve the team

I have no idea what is going to happen and I have no idea why they are so secretive about it

No because McCarthy can get out before that and he will if this drags on

Dallas trails by 30 but Dallas scores late to only lose by 23 and Jerry plans a parade and gives Mike a 5 year deal ....
McCarthy is not the issue, he has his issues but he is far from the problem if anything this season has exposed the probem: ownership/front office or lack thereof

All the signs are pointing to JJ doing B and running it back. Again smh

My preference? Probably D. This organization needs fresh fire, vision, and an infusion of “nut sack” in the worst way.

Right now— this team is listless, lifeless, and lethargic. Running it back was wrong after the GB humiliation, and it’s wrong after this cluster-cuss of a season, but I don’t see JJ having enough intelligence, competence, or balls to do the right thing.

Cowboys!
Directionless since the playoff game. In sports the general rule is 24 hr rule, you shake it off and move on but these guys have the 8760 hr rule, dwell on it for a year and take the year off for no apparent reason
Maybe all rich people are this strange

Either Jerry got some bad advice (Jimmy) or he's cracking up (Al Davis). Dont know whats going on with Stephen.

I think option C with a possibility of D. If Jerral can't find a compliant, and experienced NFL coach, he may be forced into a signing a nobody.

Maybe he wont hire a HC next year the team will coach itself or he will coach it. Ted Turner did that one time, Billionaires can be megalomaniacs
LOL, I could actually see this happening. All coordinators and each week they switch who is in charge. Jerral is so cheap he would do this.

Same here maybe the commissioner throws him out for actions detrimental to the league or something similiar. They have to be concerned with the bizarre behavior by the Joneses at this point. Cowboys are a money maker for them and the owners are in fantasy land,
