Put Brooks inside and let him fight it out with Ayodele. The winner will be a very good player and the backup will be more than solid. Brooks could play just about anywhere along the LB corps. He might rotate in on running downs and split time with Ayodele or James or whoever. An athlete of his caliber would only serve to help the LB'ers and make us more solid on defense.

I'm all for drafting him if Parcells has the green light from Groh. I think he could turn out to be a monster on what could be a very, very good defense. I think he could be a terror on blitzes. For that matter, I think Ayodele will be very good blitzing too. Akin played DE in college and he was very good on the passrush. Given the opportunity, I think he'll do well rushing the QB.

Brooks is just such an athlete though. He's so big and moves so well... if his head is right he could be a force on a 3-4 defense. WIth his size and his athleticism he'll blow up some RB's and Guards in the running game.

As far as us getting him... I don't see him being worth nearly as much to a 4-3 team as he will be to a 3-4 team. LB's are run and hit guys in a 4-3... the real playmakers are defensive linemen in a 4-3. Linebackers are the stars in a 3-4 though.

Needless to say, there are a lot more teams playing the 4-3 than the 3-4. Pitt, SD, Dallas, Cleveland, Miami, SF... those teams might pony up a pretty high pick for him.

I hope it is us who gets him. Plug him in and let him compete... may the best man win and we'll have an outstanding set of ILB's.

If he's there in the 3rd he would be an absolute steal...NO WAY does he make it past SF in the 3rd...and they most likely take him with their second.

Next year James is UFA...want to resign him, but no guarantees...I like the potential of Akin...but new at the position.

I think he stays as ILB...in there he would be a beast and a steal in the 3rd. If we take him there I'm happy, if he's not there...no loss of sleep.

Call me crazy, but I have a feeling that Dallas is going to drop its 2nd-rounder for Brooks in the supplemental draft. Not only because of the Groh connection, his enormous talent and the fact that he would've been considered the biggest steal in draft history in the 2nd-round of the "official" draft. But also because I get the feeling that this kid really wants to play football, is committed to cleaning up his life... and Parcells.... well..... would LOVE to add a talent like that to an already burgeoning defense.

I could be wrong, and we'll see Thursday. But we won't get him in the 3rd.

If we drop a 2nd, though... he's ours.

Ok....

You're crazy.

I think any team that spends a second on the guy is crazy as well.

He's a ten million dollar talent.....ten cent head.

 Ahmad Brooks

We don't need this thug, especially for that high of a pick....and after the offseason we already had, LB is now our most deepest position and there's no way he would make this roster

Ayodele, Carpenter, Ware, Singleton, James, Shanle, Boiman....plus two great projects in Hoyte and Parham....Don't sell this unit short....we are now fully loaded, cocked and ready to aim!

I dont think we invest anything higher than a fourth and Im pretty sure there are a few teams that will offer a third.

Ware, James and Akin are proven, good linebackers. I dont care if this is Akin's first year at ILB, linebacking is linebacking and a good football player can play in any scheme.

Then we have Carp and Burnett who we invested a one and a two in and at some point we have to stop investing all the premium choices in one area. We need to let these guys develop and see what we have.

Boiman and Shanle are STers and solid backup guys...I say pass on Brooks in rounds 1-3

So, if you really are going for it this year, would you roll the dice? You are using tomorrow's coin to get a draft pick today. You might get a star and you might get a bust. A second round pick is usually considered close to a guaranteed solid player and a starter before long. Does Brooks fit that description?

Yes, I would. No guts, no glory. I'd rather we roll the dice on a player like this than a Free Agent. JMO.

Plus he has friends on the team who are high character guys.

I would give up a 2 in a heart beat. I want this monster to play along with Ayodele/Carpenter/Ware/James. Let James come out on passing downs and bring in Brooks. Brooks/Carpenter/Ware have got to be 3 of the biggest 3 LBrs ever!! Brooks can run, and can you imagine bringing all 3 of those guys including hatcher and Canty, and possibly even RW?

You bring this guy in period. 2nd rounder.... Who cares? If this guys head was on straight from the beginning, and he didn't get injured, he would most likely be a top ten player.. And for those who think we have plenty of linebackers... We have a really good starting group and a bunch of scrubs.

BILL PARCELLS!!!!!!! GET ER DONE BUDDY!!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!

Ware-check,
Ayodele-check,
James-check,
Carpenter-check,
Burnett-Big ?, will he ever be healthy? Ware's backup for now,
Boiman-STs guy, solid outside backup
Singleton-solid outside starter but Carpenter & Boiman could knock him off roster.
Parham-longshot might make PS
Hoyte-longshot might make PS
Shanle-STs guy, certainly could upgrade his spot
Fowler-okay inside backup, might develop, nothing wrong with finding better imo.

Starters look good on paper wouldn't call this crowded. Our head coach collects LBs.

So with all these ????? at LB depth, why did they let Fujita get away?

Fujita sucked and they have decent depth at outside LB with the drafting of Carpenter and bringing in Boiman. Brooks is an ILB(though he could most likely play outside too) where the depth is only ok with Shanle and Fowler.

I was thinking about this post a lot. I like Fowler a lot but there isn't a LB in that group of red that I think has the potential to be better than Brooks. I'd take him over all 4 of them truth be told. Then stock the PS with other positions.

What is with all of the Ahmad Brooks threads? Is LB a dire need for this team? Especially a guy with a shaky history?

There's no way we are wasting a 1st day draft pick on this guy....especially with young studs like Carpenter, Ware, Ayodele and Shanle already on the roster!

Well I would certainly hope so, considering those guys were all street free agents.

I'm not against Brooks, really, I just think a lot of people are caught up in the hype of "potential" with him. Sure, it sounds great to get this talented player a year early and assume all his problems are behind him, but next year's draft will be here sooner than we think, and it's going to hurt if this season shows that we still need a right tackle, or a guard, or a nosetackle, or a free safety, or even a wide receiver, and we don't have a pick to fill that need.

Yeah all this time should be used on rehashing the same old tired arguments over the QBs on the roster.

It's called freedom of expression. It means you don't pick the topics people choose to talk about.
