SHAWN SPRINGS VISITING THE PATS

Posted by Mike Florio on February 28, 2009, 10:59 p.m.

Veteran cornerback Shawn Spring could be the latest member of the Patriots’ thirtysomething defense.

The 12-year veteran, cut by the Commanders in the wake of the Albert Haynesworth signing, will visit the Pats on Sunday, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Providence Journal.

Free-agent cornerback Leigh Bodden visited the Pats on Friday, but reportedly left without a contract.

I think if the Pats want him, they'll get him. And they've recently freed up a ton of cap room with the Matt Cassel trade.

Now we'll see how badly he wants to come to Dallas.

Didnt zach thomas do the same thing last year? He still signed here, because it is his home and he thought he fit better. Maybe springs will do the same.

Now If I am springs I go to new england 10 times out of 10, but thats me.

I'm not. He's willing to play here over any other place and an earlier report I had on money being the issue is apparently not the case.

Hos, you can't believe that Springs still has the skills to be an asset here.

why springs? dallas has 2 young guys that played great down the stretch. if theres gonna be a new cb in dallas. im willing to bet he will be drafted in rd 3 or 4.

round 3 or 4 is awfully early, considering he'll be behind 2 2nd year players on the depth chart. Unless a more talented player falls to us, I'd rather not draft a CB till late. Signing Springs are are anyone else gives some solid veteran depth

I think Spings is going to be a Pat.

And we don't need a starting CB so maybe we look at Drayton Florence as our 4th CB now that Henry is gone. I do hear that he is looking to go back to San Diego though.

I am not sold on Alan Ball.

I agree DC, I think he's gonna be a Patriot b4 this weekend's over! He seems to fit the Belichek mold perfectly!

I would have liked to see him come here and help us out at Safety/CB whatever they decided to do with him.

Maybe he was asking for a little too much loot.

I'm glad to see we're looking at Bartel. I still remember seeing his combine workout and thinking he was very talented... He was just from a smaller school.

I would think he would get a pretty decent contract, though. But maybe not. I haven't kept up with the Rams. (Who has?)

Even if we don't get them all signed, at least we're looking at the right kind of people this year. I don't see how anyone can argue that.

I would rather have Bartel, but Springs would be a great pickup for a couple of years. He's versatile and 100% an asset in the locker room. Plus, nothing would make me happier than to see Springs come here and have a great couple of seasons while D. Hall flops in DC. :)

I syure hope we do not sign Springs, we have never signed Commanders cast offs before, and I say we stick to it.

Springs is not all that good, but hey maybe he could convert to one of the safety spots.

Bartel is reportedly wanting 7mils a yr. You guys are outta your mind.

Wasn't Bartell the corner that Crayton abused up and down the field a few years ago?

I want to say that was Lenny Walls off the top of my head. And Walls is playing for the Calgary Stampeders now.

Yeah, give me Florence and draft a developmental guy to round out the group and compete with Ball for the 5th spot or roster spot
