Prescott is only 1 of 8 for 28 yards on 20+ yard targets.

He's 10 of 11 for 191 yards 1 td 0 int (149.1) on throws of 11-20 yards between the numbers.

Great to see, but history says regression to the mean. Still impressive so far.

OK-- so he's 1st in 21-30 (still rated as an intermediate pass by the article), 29th in 31-40, and 5th in 40+. Don't leave that out lol.

The point of the OP was to say that Dak should throw and complete more 20+ passes. My point is simply saying that JG's offense is focused on the intermediate game, and Tony's numbers between 21-30 yards bear that out.

My guess would be that as Dak matures as a passer and defenses have to back off a bit on the running game-- his numbers of 20+ passes will go up as a result. I would still think that Garrett would have him focused on higher percentage passes under 30 yards, as that is the bread and butter of this offense.

In 31-40 he's tied for T-8 at 3.8% with Glennon 1st at 5.3%.

Passes thrown over 30 yards make up a tiny percentage of any team's total pass attempts. The league average is less than 2 per game. Romo averaged 1.67 per game in 2014. Last year, Roethlisberger had 2.75 per game.

I agree. I'm not concerned about how many deep balls we will throw what I expect to see is the offense continue to move the ball and continue to convert. Currently Dallas is leading all teams in the NFL in 3rd down conversions at 52.5% and the Cowboy penalties they also rank high in terms of fewest penalties. As I mentioned earlier all these pass plays have more than 1 read and if Dak sees an opportunity for the deep ball I have no doubt he will take it but most important is to continue to make the correct reads and connect on those plays.

People love spending a lot of time tearing down the Cowboys yet fail to see a lot of good things they are doing. I guess after so much bad people have gotten to the point they can't see the good.

Agreed on point 2. The Dallas offense's bread and butter is the intermediate passing game.

What's particularly impressive is that he seems to get exponentially better with each start.

He's 10 of 11 on throws of 11-20 yards between the numbers, but he only threw one such pass against the Giants in week 1. So, 9 of 10 the last two weeks alone.

I agree, as he gains more experience the game will actually start to slow down for him and his reads will become quicker and I hope as he takes more chances he will learn when to take those risk and when he needs to play it safe. I think the main tool for any QB playing this game is the 6 inch space between the ears, the one thing that has been proven over the years is you don't have to be 6'5" to be a great QB, you don't need a cannon for an arm and you don't need to be extremely fast to be great, the key to the position is how you are able to process information quickly and know where to go with the ball.

2 guys who were good at getting open down the field.

One guy who was good and the other guy who played street ball when the play broke down but I get your point. We've seen Romo go deep to Williams and others. He's under-rated when it comes to going down field.

Just use his small frame and quickness to slip behind the back coverage (FS), like last week :)

Welker made a living doing it.

The Cowboys won't make much of a living sending someone like Cole Beasley on go routes. He's 5'8" with a small catch radius. The further he gets down the field, the smaller a target he becomes. It becomes an even lower percentage pass play with him in the deep route.

Confidence and knowledge of the offense is a beautiful thing.

Because someone was going to ask about it anyway.

Gotcha... it's such a small sample size at this point that it is pretty much irrelevant. It will be interesting to see where his numbers go as the competition gets stiffer and there is more film on him available for defenses to break down.

For 3 games-- he has put up an amazing performance and shown that he has the physical tools and football IQ to play at this level. Really hope he can keep making strides this season.
